Today I'm reviewing the new Powder Blender from Brush and Pencil. I'm going to show you how easy it makes it to blend colored pencils smoothly for a soft blurry background, and still get tons of detail after. I will also be giving you a few tips so that you can avoid some of the mistakes I made! I'm using polychromos and Luminance for this video.

New painting videos Wednesdays at 3pm CST

Time lapse and speed painting tutorials and demonstrations by award winning artist Lachri. Learn how to paint portraits, surreal landscapes, pets, lions, tigers, and birds...pretty sure a Wizard of OZ reference should be made right about now. Get tips and watch techniques for working in acrylic and oil paint, carbon pencil, graphite and colored pencil.

This video was shot using the Canon VIXIA HF G20 HD camcorder.

I ordered the starter kit. Can't wait to try it out. I also ordered her book, "Colored Pencil Painting Bible" and that is going to be a great reference tool. It's amazing.

You are lucky, Lisa, to have this product and so many others!!
Here, in the Middle East, we hardly get stuff!! Still living the Cave Era!

Lisa thank you! I asked you about this a few weeks ago, you are one of the most talented cp artists I know, and knew you would be the best to review this.

Color me impressed, haha. This is incredible! I'm especially loving that white colored pencil. I'm really interested in seeing you do larger more serious pieces with this stuff :) Best of luck experimenting! :D

I'm a mere hobby colorist, but may I say how relieving it is that a professional artist like yourself also finds doing skies tedious? I swear, the next time I have a sky, I may print the line art with the sky already light blue. Since I'm just coloring for my own amusement, I can do this. ;-D

Thank you so much Lisa!! :D
I started out with pastels and love how fast and smooth they blend out. Unfortunately, they are messy and not for traveling.
This looks very interesting- it will be worth to try out!

The one that you said didn't work on the absorbent paper is still quite beautiful. I love the texture in the in the grey sky. Great video. Thanks.

In 2014 a fantastic book came out called The New Colored Pencil by Kristy Ann Kutch. She describes and recommends (among a great deal of other grounds/surfaces for colored pencil) a long list of sanded papers for colored pencil use. And yes, the coverage as far as being able to layer and layer and layer is fantastic! It's about continually trying different new and different products and working outside your comfort zone or as some say out of the box. What's a bit ironic is that you seem to pride yourself of trying new things...but these sanded papers have been out for decades used by pastel artists...and their use with colored pencil has been known by professional colored pencil artists for years. Welcome to the party! : )

Girl I agree with you on this powder blender... I don't like messy medias either.
THIS might be a great idea for me, "color pencils & powder blender". 🤔
