To stop further confusion:
The version available on the 1969 mono version of Yellow Submarine is a foldown of the stereo mix. The true mono mix (finished in early 68') was never released officially until Mono Masters in 2009.

I always found it interesting that when they created this mono mix from the main four track session tape that they must have thought the drums weren’t loud enough. You can hear them manually bumping the level up on the main backing track (piano, drums, tambourine, first guitar) when the snare hits. You can hear the piano come up with the snare. Too bad that they had not recorded this on 8-track tape we could’ve had great balancing of everything. There really is a lot going on in this song if you break it down. But as we all know, the Beatles didn’t even know there was an 8-track machine in house until later that year in 1968. I love the original mono mixes because they’re so true and pure of the times. This mono mix really had a lot of compression going on. There is a point at the end of the first chorus, and the guitar solo is beginning, where there is piano, drums, bass, tambourine, and four guitar parts, all being mixed down to mono at that point. That’s why the solo sounds so buried in this mix. But it’s still lovely.

Nice mix! I was rather disappointed with the red and blue album. I was hoping to find an original mono version but dang this is good!

Well, I mean it was on the Yellow Sub LP in 1968( or is it '69) anyway that was in mono too.

it's the best mix. the stereo mix destroys the song, and the new 2023 mix sounds weird, still too separated, the left channel with the piano and some guitar should be more centered. here it's perfect.
