I've bought, on-line, several brand new Gibsons (Les Pauls and Acoustics), Fenders (Teles and Strats), Ibanez'es (Artists, Icemans, S-Series) and Harley Bentons, and so far, I have not had any qc-issues at all with any of these brands. All they ever need are good setups, which I do myself to get them set to my liking

Played 50 or so the last 2 years, I found 15 of em had paint issues and binding issues . Most the models I played were 2006-2022. So in my experience it's an issue, but not every guitar is gonna be shit. It's not just angery ppl, I'm on forms all the time and it keeps popping up, and yes it's not just set up issues .

It's not a myth unless you are paid to say so.. My problem with QC is that if the guitar is 1500 or more (or even less) I want the manufacturing company to check it out before shipping it. It's really simple, just get a person to check the guitar's quality, not a difficult task. Some are quite good at that, like Ibanez and PRS. Some other companies just don't care, because they know it takes time, and time is money.

One of the common gripes on Gibson are the tooling marks on the fretboard that happen a literally because they do hand scraping. If they did it the ‘cheap’ way the tooling marks would be gone. People want “handmade” instruments and then bitch then they’re handmade.

I agree with you a 100percent on this one Dylan most of the QC people complain about are usual setup or nut issues.

I haven’t yet picked up a Gibson that the QC didn’t bug me. Tool marks to just uneven finish, over spray etc… needless to say I have not been able to justify the expense. Have owned Fender, PRS, and 2 TTG guitars. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect better.

Washburn Sona-master bought at Sight and Sound Music Muncie Indiana one year ago. They also go by World Music Supply on the internet. Recently the reverse headstock looks like their is a back bow in the headstock. I have been leaving it in case and playing my other guitars my name is right here same city and state as the shop

I have 4 Gibsons I all bought brand new. All outstanding. The closest thing someone could nitpick about is little binding imperfections. But Gibson hand scrapes their binding and that's part of their partially hand made character. I definitely don't consider them flaws or qc problems.

I have worked at three different music stores over the past 25 years and I can tell you 100% that the quality control of Gibson and Fender is overall very good. People are a lot more outspoken and make an effort to express themselves when they are angry or disappointed compared to when they are very happy.

To get it out of the way, I love Gibsons, own several and think they can be great guitars but I have found QC issues in many. A 2015 japanese market Flying V had a tailpiece stud stuck because the bushing was badly threaded. I had to remove the bushing and fit a new one with a new stud as well. A 2014 custom shop ES-Les Paul had terrible finish on the F-holes (while on the same shop, a similar model that cost the same was an absolute masterpiece), a 2010 melody maker I bought new had the jack soldered the wrong way around (ground where the output should be), many SG's I've encountered had bad neck angles, my 2004 firebird had unevenly spaced strings on the original bridge and a couple tool marks on the fretboard, I've seen nuts with fucked string heights and radiuses, crooked tuners... As I see it, they're great guitars if you do the work yourself or have a good luthier to get them where they need to be. They're a good (even affordable, for what they can do) starting point for a seriously awesome guitar but they do need some finessing to get there.

I would agree that quality control issues are overstated, but I wouldn't go as far as to call them a myth. Small QC issues are easy to find and, fortunately, most are easy to fix. But let's not pretend that they don't exist.

I don't think my guitar fulfills your time and photo criteria.
2018 Fender AO 60s Telecaster bought at GC.

The neck bolt wholes were drilled crooked.

The neck was crooked (the E string kept falling off the body). At first I thought the neck had shifted, but when I tried to straighten it, it would not move. I returned the guitar and ordered one through SW.

I’ve been a die hard Gibson player for years (and actually own a great Les Paul, quality, playability and tone) and feel pretty lucky to have found one.
But I no longer buy Gibson guitars for their QC issues period.
Bought a Heritage H535 and I’m blown away by this guitar and plan on buying many more Heritage guitars.

My Dean Trans AM was also bought at the same shop both guitars have reverse headstock. The dean doesn't have any issues. I'm not taking $100 Washburn Sona-master in to the shop. When their going rate for repairs are $60 an hour.

I'm an elderly pro guitar player and have been buying, trading and playing Gibsons and Fenders since the early 60s. I currently have two 2017 American Strats and one 2012 Les Paul Traditional (Henry J period). I worked in stores and guitar shops for 29 years and in all that time I never had to return a guitar for qc issues or any other reason. My Henry Les Paul is the best one I've ever had and it's bone stock. I still go to guitar stores and check out new Gibsons and Fenders and don't see any evidence of this poor qc epidemic the internet is experiencing lol. Kudos to you, Dylan for bringing this up. As the other Dylan wrote, "Banker's neices seek perfection, expecting all the gifts that wise men bring". Hahaha!

Ive only bought 2 Gibson's. One i bought from a store after trying it out and one i bought online. Both were completely worth the money. Both were top notch fit and finish. I will buy more in the future.

That's a great idea. I bet you don't get very many people actually sending stuff in with real problems. I've ordered most of my guitars online, only 2 vendors asked me how I wanted my guitar set up. Which really surprised me because I wasn't expecting that at all!

In the last 6 year, I have purchased approximately 25 new guitars.. 80 percent were fender. Only one of the guitars had any issues …a 2017 Limited Edition Malaysian Blackwood tele…a month after I received it, it developed a bubble under the finish. Fender sent me a check as the sold their their stock and I bought one on reverb. He said we can happen with the word completely dry charging my battery separately I had a fender custom shop pro amp Basically blew up on me with the power transformer going out and destroy prevent with it. When you wanted me to ship it or take it to a warranty center that was out of state as a live in rural America. A friend of mine that owns a shop so he would take care of it once he qualified in the certified as a Fender authorized warranty and repair dealer.. In hindsight I should have sent it back to fender or to a shop to have it repaired instead of waiting on my friend to get certified. By the time he got certified my new and was no longer covered under warranty to replace the transformer. I have purchased approximately 10 new Amps from fender ? I am more upset about their refusal to replace my transformer as I’ve only use the guitar once in two years And file a warranty claim with in 30 days of purchasing the guitar

The only quality issue I ever had was with my Les Paul. The fret ends were so sharp it would rub blisters on your fingers. But it also took three trips to a local tech over a four month period so that makes it kinda hard to blame gibson. Thanks for sharing

Most guitarists don't know how good their guitars can be. I took one of mine to a highly respected guitar tech and I thought he'd given me the wrong guitar, it was an amazing transformation. Great techs aren't cheap but they are worth every cent, I take every new guitar to a tech who does work for musicians who I respect and he never misses, try it you won't look back.
