Venus is much more "Terraformable" than Mars due to having almost the same gravity as Earth.
Mars does not have enough gravity to have a decent atmosphere. It will evaporate to space.

There are some of the wealthiest universities in the world in America sitting on endowments worth tens of billion dollars. Their research programs will certainly benefit from the data on these missions, so I hope they are at least contributing some of the funding.
