International Workers Day is a celebration of laborers and the working class, honoring those who helped grow their nation with dedication and persistence through hardship. It commemorates past struggles of laborers against workers’ rights violations, poor conditions and child labor. Prior to this day being founded in 1886, the U.S. working class was often forced to work up to sixteen hours a day in unsafe conditions. With the introduction of International Workers Day, their protest for an eight-hour workday was finally heard.
