Superb performance! Still my all-time favorite recording of the 10th since 1982. 👍

I first fell in love with the I believe it was the 1966 performance! When I heard this one I became addicted to this one!

An excellent Shosty 10 recording. Also recommended are Petrenko, and Barshai.

That DS floating amongst the clouds is fairly Bodacious

Karajan letting the percussion and brass loose? What a surprise.

Honourable mention for a great recording of the 10th should also go to Pavo Berglund and the Bournemouth. I have never heard a better second movement

That ending...someone hitting you over the head and saying "Be Happy!!"

The best recording, if you can find a copy, is with Efrem Kurtz and second is with Yevgeny Svetlanov. IMHO this recording is just an also ran. No mistakes, but not the depth of feeling heard in those other two recordings. I know many will disagree, but please do so after hearing Kurtz's version first.

It's very very good but still, for me, nothing touches the 1976 Haitink/LPO recording. Such expressive power in the first movement, and no one else has even approached the ferocity and precision of the Scherzo on that record. Check it out.
