My girl, a Phalene, has none of those habits. She will use a pillow, but is content to flop on the carpet without one. She does like to investigate things; walks can last forever. She watches bugs, lizards, snakes, squirrels, etc but never bothers them. I don't know about the left side thing because we have very few stairs here in FL. But her thing is to walk two steps in front of me, trying to figure out where I'm going so she can get there first. As a result she knows the meaning of "Move it!" One habit she has; if I go into the bathroom, she turns around and stands guard at the door until I'm done. I've seen other dogs do this too.

I love watching Percy. Papillons have hunting spaniels in their ancestry. Sniffing is very common for hunting dogs. He is hunting bugs for you.
I wonder if the left side up the stairs is part of his heeling training. Some trainers will walk along a fence to keep the dogs focus on them. Not sure, just wondering.

All very traits for papillon except don't know about the spider thing. I had mine for 16 and a half years and he always amazed me. Unfortunately the last few months he got tired and it was sad but I had to let him go, but he deserved that for the pleasure he gave me

Yep. 4 out of 5 for all the paps that I’ve owned. I’ve never seen the stair thing. Sniffing? Even my female did it. A lot. Insects are play toys. Especially grasshoppers. My female used to find dead bugs or poop and roll in it. Pillows are mandatory sleeping accessories. So are blankies. Paps are a very unique breed. Their uniqueness is what keeps me with the breed. Percy is very typical of the breed. Very intelligent.

My Papillon named Paisley Joy sniffs and then will lick . Also bugs/spiders she will tap with her paw. Thank God I've never seen her eat one.

Hi Percy! My girl Taylor wants to know if you do "The Sneeze" when you want your human to hurry up? This is a sort of fake sneeze and head shake that I have learned means "get moving!" Like "You said you were going to get my dinner. Let's go!"

Aww my pap, Huxley, tries to catch bugs that are in the air with his mouth! Sometimes he gets a little confused about when he sees dust in the sunlight and goes CRAZY

Our old man papillon (He just turned 15) has weird quirks, always has to walk on our left side, if you hug the wall so he can't be on your left he'll stop and give you the "evil glare" (well, not really) of "HEY, NO. I GO ON THAT SIDE!" He also cuddles my dirty clothes to make a bed out of. His favorite are socks, which I work in a warehouse, so he must be crazy lol

As for number 5 - there is an explanation for this phenomenon. Dogs have a nasal lamella gland which is located in the throat. They often not only smell the places that, for example, another dog pissed on, but also lick them. In this way, they collect the smell of a given dog into this gland and use it to collect information about the dog. Or about some other thing that they will examine the smell of.

My papillon also has to be near the wall while going upstairs, but downstairs as well! He also likes to put his head on sth while sleeping but it's not a must, he always has to hide his nose in sth to keep it warm though

My friends pap does most of those things, his nose is on the ground all the time he has a walk. He goes insane if anything comes into his garden and will go to any lengths to get at insects. He loves searching for his toys when I hide them judging by his wagging tail.

Oh My papillon did the stair thing. Up one way only but heck who cares going down any old way!!! Also sleeping in bed with me he had to have the pillow or the whole bed for a little dog!!!! But aren't they cute to watch?? Took my papillon for a walk & neighbors had little tiny mushrooms he ate!!!! To the vet we went. Their stomachs are sensitive and we almost lost him!!! Gotta be careful what these dogs get a hold of. Love you Good watching you!!!!💖

My papillon used to lick everything! The walls especially. And when he’d get caught he’d give me the side eye and lick one more time and run.
