Your talk was inspiring and informative. 1st, I'm glad your son is thriving. I'm a T1 LADA diagnosed in 1992 at age 38; however, was uncontrolled for many years with all the typical complications (Cataracts, Neuropathy & Retinopathy), all while under the care of an Endo following ADA guidelines. After getting a CGM about 6 years ago, I was finally able to get A1c's around 7. I didn't learn about Dr. B. until last year and have been following his book (my bible) for 14 months. A1c is now 5.6 for the past 9 months. I still have a way to go (hard to break old habits); but you have done a terrific job of setting your son up for success in the future. Found the Video via a post on TYPEONEGRIT. Tell your Son for me; IT'S WORTH IT!

Thanks Lester, beautiful talk and beautiful work over the years. My libre 2 reader broke today, and I just had the sense that I wouldn't put it on again (I started an intermittent fasting program, perhaps as a segue back to stable blood sugar that would yield a sub 5 a1c, so things are getting so stable I hardly need it). Then I saw your video, somehow decided to watch it, and then was suddenly struck with the idea of success without cgm! love it.

Great talk. We have been low carb, about 25 grams per day, since our 10 year old girl was diagnosed a few years ago. We would like to use the insulins Bernstein recommends but getting an endo to prescribe them or finding Regular OTC in Hawaii is basically impossible. We use Lantus twice a day and Humalog. Generally, I give Humalog about 30mins after a meal starts (our kid eats slowly) and a small dose about 2 hours later if needed. We eat 4 meals a day, 4 hours apart and have averaged an A1C of 5.7 so not terrible. Her resistance seems very high though we use about 36 units a day of Lantus and about 10 units a day of Humalog and this is on about 20/25 grams of carbs a day we never cheat with food. Puberty is just starting so it is getting even harder to predict what will happen each day but since I rarely give more than 3 units of Humalog at a meal we rarely get very low. If we do get low then 1/2 gram of carbs from a glucose tab will raise her 20 or even more.
