Is America safer? Is America healthier? Is America richer? Is America economy better? Are school better? Are streets maintained? So where’s is the money going? Our government is the problem!

Our government is taking care of people from other countries while our elderly are barely surviving…how embarrassing

At 65 I’m still working FT - retirement got derailed in 2020 (lost the buyer for my business). I don’t have even $2k in a checking account but I don’t stress on things even though I still have a bit of mortgage left. So, when I have “extra” money I prepay utilities and mortgage. Utilities are 5-6 months ahead and mortgage always three months ahead (yes also tossing extra at mortgage principle). I also grocery shop the sales, cook all meals at home, freeze and home can food. When business drops (as it has been terribly unpredictable) and with it my income for the month, I don’t curl up in a ball because I know I have at least three months roof over my head, food and utilities for months. I don’t have credit card debt or any debt other than a small mortgage left.

We're up here in Canada and nobody can afford a house or a car. I was going to get a roast to cut up into steaks for the barbecue and it was 55$ at Costco when it was 30$ just a year ago. To just rent a minimalist dump will cost you at least 1300$ per month. Our minimum wage is 15$ per hour and nobody can live on that. We are seeing drug zombies and homeless now everywhere when it was way less 3 years ago. People are setting up camps everywhere and politicians keep telling us how great everything is. Now we got fires in BC which will cost millions to deal with which nobody has.

Best lesson my parents taught me was to live within my means and to work as much as it takes to provide for your family.

Mississippi has been the poorest state for many years. So it’s no surprise people are struggling.
The problem is so many people were already struggling before all this inflation hit now it’s so much worse.

Welcome to America where Americans have been living paycheck to paycheck for DECADES.

For decades most Americans can’t even afford a $1000 emergency

What people don't understand is that if inflation levels off, prices of goods do NOT drop, the current high price which already hurts most families will stay put and slowly increase over time. Inflation is to guarantee that people will have to work until the day they die.

In 1929 at the start of the GREAT DEPRESSING 9, 000 Banks closed their doors and didn't reopen until three years later. My Father and Mother lost their savings then the I.R.S. GOONS came in and popped off the LOCKS on all the SAFE DEPOSIT BOXES and took the GOLD, SILVER BONDS and JEWELS. We lost our Home and moved into a shack on the beach where Mom raised us on GOAT milk. Dad joined the Navy as a Doctor so he could send his money home to Mom to feed us kids." TAKE YOUR MONEY OUT OF YOUR BANK then close out your safe deposit box because it is going to happen again very soon.

My business is worse now than the first year I opened it. I have never seen it so bad! My wife and I live a very frugal life, so we are still ok.

Checking account balance is not a reflection of money in the bank. It would be foolish to keep any more than necessary in checking, earning 0%, when high-yield savings accounts earn 4-5.3%.

I have little anxiety. My creditors, however, are terrified. Not my fault they make bad business decisions.

5% CD interest for those living below their means. 30% interest on cc balances for those living above their means.

I fall under elderly (77) and I believe that amount is fine. But, I am very healthy and never signed up for Medicare. I worked for one of the two top health insurance companies in the US, which is reason one for NOT being interested. I sold my nice house with a big profit and bought one built by a bootlegger during the Great Depression. 20 years later, I still love it. I'm cheap, and don't need anything, asides from food. Number one mistake before, wanted "nice stuff". I save for projects and zero debt. We became too commercialized and the people who run the US too crooked.

Very prudent advice. It is refreshing to see someone preaching responsibility. We have lost that in these times. Keep spreading the lessons of life. You are a good man.
