Bay Ridge Brooklyn Old Time Movie Theaters

This should be all of the movie theaters in Bay Ridge that existed in our lifetimes.

I included those theaters that were once considered to be part of Bay Ridge but no longer are such as those in the '50s and '60s from 3rd to 13th Avenues.

born in Brooklyn in the 80s, lived in the Sunset Park and then Bay Ridge areas all this time, yet I was only aware of three of these, one which still exists (5th and 69th). Had no idea there were so many more. Mind blown. Some of these areas have no human traffic anymore, like the 3rd and 54th Alben theater you showed. What the hell

Thanks Matty! Brought back wonderful memories of The Dyker from late 50's. It was a couple of blocks from my dad's office on 86th and 18th Ave. Saw many Martin & Lewis and Abbot & Costello flics there. Went only once on a Satuday.... wow, those kids were rowdy. Had a matron armed with a flashlight and a take no shit attitude! Not sure which theatre I went to for the Beatles Help, but that was a sociological revaluation too... a full house of screaming girls in pure Beatles frenzy

As a native Brooklynite from the 1950's I never knew there were so many theaters unknown to me. I lived between Sunset Park and Park Slope. I lived a block from the Paradise theater on 28th street and 4th ave. We used to call it The Dumps (for obvious reasons). I've been to the Park, Sanders, Prospect, Avon, Coliseum, Marlboro, Fortway, Alpine, Harbor, Dyker, Benson and many others. I moved to Bay Ridge (73rd and 3rd) after military service in the mid 1970's and the Bay Ridge Theater was already gone. They were all single screen theaters in the 1950's and up till the 1970's. Youngsters will never know the joy of the "big screen" but I guess life goes on, fuhgeddaboudit.

The Stanley, The Electra, The Shore Road, The Harbor, The Dyker, The Bay Ridge, The Alpine. and the Fortway which am not sure is considered Bay Ridge but all the 7 others were. Saturday was Cartoon day and cost 5 cents admission, Before TV, we watched the news of the world on the news reels that the theaters would show, Don't remember too well Wurlitzer Organs but think there were some also and
used for the non-talkies movies like Charlie Chaplin.

The Loew's Alpine is the only one still in business (barely because of the pandemic shutdown). The Bay Ridge Theater and Harbor are now both gyms; the main work-out room in the Bay Ridge Theater (now a NYSC) is cavernous and still has the theater's ornate, plaster work ceiling and trim. The Bay Ridge Theater also has a McDonald's and Rite Aid on the ground floor (sign of the times). The Fortway is now a Chinese supermarket.

There was also the Park Theater on 5th Ave and 46th Street, I believe.

How do you get these removed from your FB. They come in droves and are not appreciated
