DIY Hammock Stand

Operation Yard-Beatification has officially commenced. Have you been following along as I have been sharing the steps we’re taking to create the yard of our dreams? This custom hammock stand has been such a fun addition!

After lots of contemplation, I decided to tear out the original one I built. It could have been dangerous for us (or our kiddos!), so I decided to tear it out and rebuild it with 12’ posts this time! I feel so much better about it being safe and secure.

We’re so excited to have a comfortable spot to hang out back here every day this summer. Make sure you’re following along as we share the updates we’re making to the front yard too!

I love that the whole family is involved. Helping, learning, bonding, memories.🥰💕✌🏽

If you put the water in the wheel barrow before you add the dry quickcrete, it makes it easier to mix.

Teaching your kids how to actually create stuff is awesome

That's how families should be, working together around the house involving all the kids even if they are not actually helping. The kids will become more independent faster and make them fearless of life.

Why use a sonotube if you're going to place concrete outside the sonotube?

Putting it together on the ground was a good idea.

That will be great for a while. That cardboard form sandwiched between concrete will rot out be replaced with dirt and moisture, freeze, and crack, unless you live south.

With quikrete post setter you can pour the dry cement into the hole and then add water and save yourself the trouble of mixing it up!

Ah man. 😅 You re built it and still dropped the posts in the ground without any protection. Could have used a sleeve, tar, asphalt, oil, anything would be better than nothing. Also you have to use bigger sonotubes for 6x6 posts. 12" minimum, they are going to crack.

Should have cut pockets for the criss braces. The only thing holding that in the air is the bolt, and sheer weight will eventually reak havoc. It will last a few years if lucky, but it is not safe. It does look very nice, though. Athletically, it is very nice, structurally not so much.
