Robin van Persie - Why RVP left Arsenal for Manchester United

Will the Flying Dutchman be remembered as a goal-scoring hero at the Emirates, or as a Samir Nasri or Ashley Cole-type mercenary?

The 29-year-old is on big bucks at Old Trafford and will have to forge a strong alliance with England star Wayne Rooney to justify his fee.

May Arsene Wenger be happier than Sir Alex Ferguson with the deal? Subscribe to Goal and leave your comments to let us know what you think!

He win the EPL trophy with MU last year and YES he will win it again this year matey.. If "MU" reap what "Arsenal" sow, so be it. It means Manchester United is the club that RVP has been waiting for all those 8 years. #GGMU #CHAMP20N

Load of crap we didn't offer him a contract and he wanted to move give him a break

Love how people are saying he did it for the money. Guess what? I bet none of you would refuse an offer to be rich. He's allowed to do whatever he wants. Leave him alone.

Obviously rvo was very important for arsenal last year, but I think people saying he without him they wont do well at all. The 4-5-1 formation arsenal used last year meant that almost all of arsenal's chances went through rvp simillar to someone like cisse or ba at newcastle. So, it seems to me that as long as arsenal creative signings do well like cazorla then giroud can fit the same role

The only reason I hate van persie is because when he scored a goal against arsenal and ran to the fans of arsenal and celebrated in front of them

He stayed for eight years, why are people upset that he moved on? He tried to achieve success at arsenal, but grew tired of hard work for lack of silverware. He is not a "dog", he's a good player who wants to win trophies.

He made 37 goals for Arsenal last year, RVP himself kept Arsenal into the Premier League if someone is ungrateful it's the Arsenal fans that suddenly hate him now!

It took him seven years to compete at a world class level for a whole season

You know it's reported that he was offered 300K at Manchester City, right? It's not ALL about the money. Rvp thought United had a better chance at winning the title and he was right; 12 points clear and with a good chance of winning a treble.

How, he abandoned us when we needed him most. To one of our fiercest rivals Man United.

Arsenal should be thankful for Van Persie. He's stuck with them for years and has always done his best to give a good performance. I would not blame Robin for leaving. He gave everything to Arsenal year after year but Arsenal never gave anything to him. He stayed for eight years. He scored so many goals each year. How can Arsenal and its fans be angry? If Arsenal had won a piece of silver then I think Robin would have stayed. It just goes to show that the most loyal players have their limits.

Personally, I think thats all about to change since we can afford to spend big now. In those 8 seasons we always had something lacking e.g defence. Look now, best midfield in bpl. Giroud on form and defense is strong. good combination so we have a good chance for a trophy

u are sooo right, , united are nothing w/o Persie... Every year we were so close to have a perfect squad, but I always went wrong... Now there is not much left to go wrong, so I can only be right + Wenger should go and Kronke as well

You can't compare the match experience you get in Holland with England. The opponents are also better than the opponents in Holland. Arsenal made him. No one knows who else could have made him, but fact is, that Arsenal made Robin Van Persie.

To all Arsenal fans calling RVP a traitor…have you forgotten about Sol Campbell?
He was at Tottenham for his whole career and then decided to move to their biggest rivals, who became a key member of your invincible squad. Did you all slate him for that? My point is you can’t label RVP as a traitor or mercenary for trying to better his career when Campbell left from Tottenham to arsenal to do the same!

People (Man United fans in particular) criticised us about how Van Persie carried Arsenal. Now, Van Persie is carrying Man United, you don't see them complaining.

united owes so many points to van persie and the goals he has scored. if arsenal had him this season, im confident they would be a few points behind united at this stage in the season.

1st. Man Utd = 42 points
8th. Arsenal = 24 points

That gap is now 18 points.
That is 6 wins.
We have not even played the 18th league game of the season yet.
