This was a great video. For those of you that haven't pulled the trigger on GSS....DO IT! Tyler is a great teacher and he just showed great of a player he is on this vid. I've got GSS 1&2 and the modern rock one too. Great stuff!

Hey Tyler. I really like that squeal around 12:29. I'm sure you smiled when you got that harmonic and got inspired to finish it off with a satriani like lick. Keep up the good work with your videos it is very helpful to all guitarists out there including me.

Thank you very much Tyler! I was looking for this video :D
And it's ironic that you always upload the video about an argument I'm having trouble with on that day

The pentatonic scale for any given chord is the simplest way to melodically solo or improvise over any given chord progression & outline the chordal tones.

Em or G = Em pentatonic or G maj pentatonic (which = all the same notes).
Am or C = Am pentatonic or C maj pentatonic (which = all the same notes).
Bm or D = Bm pentatonic or D maj pentatonic (which = all the same notes).

I feel like both solos sounded really awesome, but one sounded like a SOLO and one sounded like it was supposed to be part of the song.
The one where he targeted just had those little resolutions that made me smile involuntarily.

The one people who disliked thinks that all Steve vai does is play a million notes per second and has no feelings

Another valuable lesson Tyler! This was kinda an extract from "Habits from that Music is win dude" previously requested, haha! By any chance are you working on Guitar Super System Level 3? If not, what'll be your next course focused on?

I like to figure out what the different chord tones are in just one scale and then you can hit those chord tones all within one scale. Just figure out where those chords sit in your scale. Nice video!

Not specifically related to soloing onto chord changes, but on soloing in general: I've just recently learnt the pentatonic scale (cut me some slack, i'm only a few months into my journey of learning) but I took a look at the 3 notes per string method and the modes (ionian, dorian etc). What I don't quite get is, how do you know that you can play an E aeolian on this chord progression? And I get that I can use G ionian (the major, because it's the key) But even when I understand the key or I follow the chord.. how do I understand what other modes I can use? Why can't I use, for example, all of the other boxes that follow the G ionian mode (like you'd do on a pentatonic, for example)? I can't understand how I know whether a frigian or a lydian, or a mixolydian would I hope I made sense, I'm still new to all this. But I'm trying to build up some nice fundamentals even if I'm not fast or anything.

Also, what kind of skill level does one have to start GSS?
