Thank you Thank you Thank you all NSF for being the only group to have the integrity to thoroughly research and present the very true picture of what is happening with the Starship coordination with FAA! So far you are literally the only YouTube coverage of the Space community I’ve found that actually did due diligence to find the true facts instead of joining in to the hysteria that’s been generated by this issue! In fact you did more than most of the House subcommittee members did during their recent meeting with the FAA CST Assoc. Admin Kelvin to understand the issues. You now have a good understanding what frustration pretty much every environmental professional in regulatory and federal sector has had to deal with historically for most all commercial space programs over the years! Great discussion by Ryan and John!

@NASASpaceFlight: Great one, Das and Ryan! Added a lot of perspective and insight into the whole discussion regarding flight 5 permits!

1:44:35 😂 It is "Zhū Què", pronouncing something like "Zu Chec(check withou k)". Zhu means red or Vermilion, Que means Bird. One of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It represents the fire-element, the south direction. It is also known as Suzaku in Japanese, and Jujak in Korean.

Thanks for confronting the FAA bashing.

The hatch opens inward because the interior of the capsule is always either equal or higher pressure than the outside. So if a fault occurs, the hatch won't blow open, it will just leak. I bet they've got a tube of RTV or something on board that they can use to seal a leaky hatch seal in an emergency.

As noted in the FAA information the 60 day timeframe is most likely related to coordination requirements with US Fish and Wildlife and National Marine Fisheries Service for the expanded impact areas, which is a well known timeframe. It’s also typically a max and could happen sooner. FAA is required by law to do cooperating agency coordination and that timeline is their regulatory timeline for coordination not FAA’s. But they need their findings as well as updated mission profile change assessments to issue a license as you stated. This process will get much better and refined for all as things progress but as Administrator Kelvin stated in his testimony and what we have experienced through the years dealing with these types of coordination issues, a great deal of delays can be avoided by commercial providing full disclosure of all needed application information in a timely manner ahead of the action and a programmatic approach vs individual launch license with the new 450 program will allow greater flexibility. Also very much looking forward to these upcoming launches but let’s keep making steady progress and not start compromising a successful process at the cost of expediency.

I really wish you guys would go back to releasing these long detailed videos in podcast form- I know Chris G was doing that back before he moved to working for SpaceX. yes we miss the visuals but some of us love to listen while at work/doing chores and don't have the time/ability to watch a 3 hour video but could happily listen while doing whatever we're doing.

thanks for the great show guys!! your starship discussion reinforced my suspicions that the reason for this delay may largely be due to all the changes SpaceX wants to make for the next launch. can't understand why they don't keep flying what they have until impacts of the new profile are studied & understood

Could you please add timestamps to your flametrench videos when you start discussing a new topic?

Ok, I enjoyed watching it as I was to little to remember the Apollo missions. But for me I cannot wait to see EVA's from Starship! But the camera views of actually live really made both excited and sick to my stomach!

The problem with the "just fly the current license" option is that it does nothing for the booster, how are they supposed to iterate the booster to version 2 with no catch data. What are the stresses on the landing pins/ chopsticks/ tower and do they need to change the stage 0 tower design for the newer towers?
Sure they can test the ship changes but the whole point of starship is re-usability and they NEED data on superheavy to even begin the upgraded designs for that to happen.

When un-docking from ISS, the 'vehicle' is initially pushed away by springs; This imparts a less controlled momentum in terms of 'Pitch, Roll and Yaw' on the 'vehicle'; This has to be adjusted to a stabilized and controlled attitude by the thrusters, hence multiple firings ...

1:24:00 the soda can analogy works well for several aspects of a rocket, but hypervelocity collisions isn't one of them. What amount of gas and ejecta would be created on the inside of the rocket? There's also a large opening when you shoot an empty can that would allow gas to rapidly escape, no such feature is found on the centaur.
