Два кольори | ACAPELLA

Пісня «Два кольори» досить давно була в моїх планах. Коли я писав аранжування, надійшла звістка про смерть Дмитра Павличка — автора тексту, чий вірш покладено в основу пісні.

Як і «Пісня про рушник», цей твір в якийсь момент став вимушено «затертим» через погане виконання, бо «Два кольори» була дуже популярна.

Зважаючи на це, я ставився до обох пісень, як до чогось доволі банального. Але зараз я переосмислюю ці пісні й пропоную вам свою інтерпретацію.

the song is just not about two colours, red is for the blood spent for freedom, black is the rembrance of those ancestors and the deceased who paid for freedom with their lives.

The song tells about the fact that the mother embroidered a towel (Ukrainian tradition. Towels were embroidered for rituals or simply for beauty, but they always contained important sacred symbols (I am also embroidering a towel now)) in two colors: red and black. Red symbolizes love, and black - sadness. The author goes on to say that a lot of events happened in his life and this two-colored towel always described his inner feelings. And here he is, already an old man, going to his parents' house and taking with him nothing but this towel, which tells about his life.
Unfortunately, the author of this beautiful poem, set to music, died a week ago.
And this poem is nationally important and necessarily studied in schools.

I’d say Ukrainian folk music is so popular now in Ukraine because we are in a special situation here. Many other countries, like the UK, had their national movements, their self-identification phase, and their fight for independence long ago, and since then their musical culture has been evolving peacefully. On the other hand, here in Ukraine, we had to fight for our culture all the time, it has been in danger of distinction for the last 300-400 years and now it’s our most powerful source of strength. I agree with you that we should never forget about our roots and history but I think I won’t be too upset if someone from the future, for ex. from 2122, tells me that Ukrainian modern music is getting farther from its’ roots ☺But nowadays yes, folk music is a very powerful source of inspiration for us.
