So, are we still watching this in July 2024? This song was such a large part of my childhood; I consider myself extremely lucky to have grown up when I did.

Also, Lionel Richie deserves a hugeeee standing ovation for his role here. Hosted the AMAs, won prizes, went to the studio, kept solving problems, made everyone feel at ease, made them laugh, kept guiding people, SANGGGG, and stayed until the very end (and of course he co wrote the song!!!!). That man did A LOTTTT and we do not appreciate that enough.

A huge round of applause as well for Quincy Jones! It takes a lot of discioline and talent to orchestrate such a plethora of legends!

It's not the politicians and bankers who make life worthwhile, but musicians and artists like these guys who somehow give us hope in difficult times. Still listening in the summer of 2024...it's been a while since I've heard this...twenty-some odd years...still, very powerful!

I like to imagine that Michael told everyone to come to the studio wearing just whatever, only so he could appear with the most and freshest drip possible lmaoo

Whoelse is here after seeing the Netflix documentary. The greatest night in Pop?
Edit- Wow! So much likes, it's great to see many people loved the documentary the same way I did. I doubt if such an iconic moment can ever be created in the world again.

STARS like them are not born everyday and they don't gather under 1 roof/sky .. it's such a big accomplishment for all that are involved in this masterpiece song

I really enjoyed the documentary in the Netflix, the story behind the song is so touching, how Quincy Jones was great, the innocence and purity of 80's, the loving soul of Michael, Lionel & Micheal dedication is unbelievable, all the details of creating, like how Bob Dillan was upset because he didn't know what to do and finally he and Steven came up with magic solo.
I Was seven when this song aired in my country in Africa at the same moment around the world. I remember I went to the TV building with my parents to donate, because of this song millions of life's has changed.

Let me get this right.
Lionel Richie wrote this song with Michael Jackson, hosted the American Music Awards that night, (where he won multiple awards), and then brought all of these amazing artists together to record this song? In the same night?
Are you freaking kidding me??
This answers the question as to who the hardest working man in showbusiness is.
Much respect Lionel Richie! And to all of the other brilliant artists who helped create this magical song!

My favorite part of the Netflix documentary is when the cameraman said he wrote up his invoice for the gig and then learned everyone involved volunteered. And here he is 40 years later, appearing in the documentary, knowing he was a part of something far greater than one night's pay.
