From my experience in both Java and python... I think a good Java developer can learn python or any other language easily...i also think we are going to see an increase in these languages in the next couple of years... My advice is, focus on understanding algorithms and then rules of programming... And the language will never be a problem...

It is true that both languages have a competitive edge...
But comparing all the common languages when it comes to learning one I think learning Java for starters is better because Java is similar to overall all the languages used in the field. After that learning any other language including Python will be a piece of cake.

Hybrid of both Java & Python should be apt for any automation. Use Java and interface Python for AI, ML and DL. As Programmer one should have combined expertise level in both.

As i know Python is functional programming language which make us write shorter code compared to java . But form java 8 on-words java started supporting functional programming language with the help of Lamda Expression, Method/constructor reference ..etc by using this we can also write shorter codes in java. Again in near future from (jan 19) java is going to be commercial, so we will see rapid changes and development so we can except that all the adv of Phython we will see in java, may be more. Some great factors of java you did not considered like transaction, scalability, exception management, security ..etc all these things make java more powerful . But u compared in terms of AI, Machine Learning ..etc . I agree that right now java is not popular in these domain But in future it may, as now Java releasing a newer version in every 6 months and from open source its going to be commercial. Anyway its my thought lets see what happens in future.
