You know on tiktok when people post about their theme parties where all of their friends are shockingly willing to go all in on costumes, well where's the sixth sense ghost party

Thank you for including the hanging ghosts— it brought back a really interesting memory from my childhood. Even as a kid, I noticed right away that the people hanged were a white woman, a black man, and a biracial child. Being a biracial child myself, it was so obvious to me what the implication was and what their “crime” had been. I mentioned it to my (white) mom, and she didn’t even notice! I’ve looked online, and I can’t really find anything about the racial element to that scene. But an interesting tidbit is that the actors who played the man and child were father and son in real life (Keith Woulard, Nico Woulard)!

The “do you want to see my dad’s gun?” kid traumatized me. I felt so bad for him. Somehow in my preteen brain that scene gave me a greater understanding of how dangerous guns are than movies where people were actually killed by guns on screen. Logically I knew guns were deadly weapons and not toys, but it never felt real to me until this movie. Nightmares galore.

Edit for spelling

I always interpreted the hanging ghosts as not corpses, but as being just as conscious and aware as the other ghosts. They just can't move around since they're physically restrained and they've been stuck in that position for so long that they don't even try to move or talk anymore. Or maybe they can't talk to Cole because the nooses crushed their windpipes, so all they can do is stare at him.

I love how clever the foreshadowing in this movie is. We see Malcolm sitting with Cole's mother when he comes home from school, and presume that they've been talking. Same with the doctor scene, though you'll notice that Malcolm never actually says anything during the conversation. It's simply mind blowing!🤯

I think the thing that scared me in a different way, is when it's revealed that Kyra's mom was making her sick. I don't know, the reveal in the tape, how the dad than looks so heartbroken and in disbelief at his wife, and how they said before that now the little sister is suffering the same "illness". It was a very fucked up scene for me

I used to think The Sixth Sense and The Fifth Element were the same movie & id seen The Fifth Element times, so when I went to a sleepover & I saw The Sixth Sense was playing on tv, I suggested we watch it and reassured everyone that it was not, in fact, a scary movie at all and everyone would be FINE.
Long story short, that’s how I accidentally traumatized 15 tween girls at a birthday party.

the only time the "ghost reveal" is ever a jumpscare is the one time _cole_ isn't expecting to see it. i think the audience is meant to regard the ghosts the same way cole does, and he's not "jumpscared" by them. he's disturbed and upset, not startled.

I saw the guy locked in the closet scene OUT OF CONTEXT walking past my living room as a kid and I NEVER forgot it. Just rewatched it a few months ago as an adult and CHILLS. Also adding to the creepiness is realizing they live in Philly in these old historic houses and he was probably a servant 😫

Toni Colette is incredible in everything.

The emotional scene when Cole talks to his mom about her mother's ghost makes me cry every time I see it. I'm gonna be wondering if my mom's proud of me until I die

I would love to see you cover Are You Afraid of the Dark! That show was banned after I had too many nightmares. I used to record episodes on the VCR and watch them terrified at night

I still vividly remember the bodies hanging in the school, and the fort scene. I saw this movie once when it came out, but a few scenes are definitely stuck in my head🤣

I was traumatized by the girl whose stepmom poisoned her, couldn’t go to bed without thinking of her for AGES after seeing the movie the first time and she still gets to me on rewatches

Kiera's ghost scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. The slow lead up to her appearance gets you so on edge, and when she finally does appear, it's a jump scare where you can't even be sure what exactly you just saw until Cole goes to investigate again.

Seeing the ghosts wasn't the scary parts of the movie for me as a kid, it was trying to figure out if they were gonna freak out at you or not that terrified me

I know how impactful the car scene is but I have to say, my eye is immediately drawn to Toni Collette's vibrant orange sweater & blush. I don't remember a lot of details from this film but I always loved her character's costuming.

What was the most horrifying to me while watching this as a kid was my parents explaining Munchausen by proxy
