Decided to hit the surf for a little morning fishing after dropping my kids off at school and to my surprise the fishing wasn't bad. Check out the video to see what I caught!

Would 14lb mono be too heavy..its what i use for striper in NorCal freshwater but I'm gunna be visiting SoCal and wanna try some surf without having to invest in separate gear if possible

Thank you for sharing your set up. If I am not wrong you go to Long Beach. Lately Long Beach has had a lot of problems with contaminated water. Rain run off. I have never kept anything from Long Beach. Youre still here so it must be ok lol.

Forgot to ask, I use a braided line 15lb. Would it work to tie directly to the braid or should I use a floural carbon leader?

8:54 now. "Hollobit", what is that? Are you saying halibut? Flattie is also ok. If you want to catch fish ditch that rig. Get some weighted hooks and some of the small rainbow rubber baits. That way you are on the bottom not midwater with your sinker dragging the bottom. It seems like you like 'pancakes' and you'll find plenty on the north side of the jetty. Pancakes galore! A batch of turbot would be much better than no halibut. On a boat or tube you can use multiple hooks.
