ever heard of factorization of a polynomial of degree 3??

This is the classical way as teached in German schools

1. sort by degree k^3 + k - 10 = 0
2.. Find a solution by inspection, here k = 2
3. Split the polynomial in two factors (k - 2 ) (k^2 + ak + 5) = 0
4. find the missing a by comparing the term without the parenthesis with the original
or by polynomial (long) division or by inspection
5. Solve the quadratic equation finding other solutions

It is no solution. You put answer in the first step and only checked it in complicated way. You should try all these combinations {10=9+1=8+2=7+3=6+4=5+5}. Solution 10=1*10=2*5 (for natural number only two possibilities): k^3+k=k*(k^2+1) =>>2*5=k*(k^2+1) : smaller multiplied by bigger For k=1 ; (k^2+1)=3 reject as incorrect. Then k=2 and 5=(k^2+1)=(4+1)=5 and it's correct answer k=2
