My grandfather had this feature in his 1961 Cadillac. There was a sensor on the dashboard. To manually turn the high beams on and off you operated a switch under your left foot up by the firewall. It had a distinctive click.

In my experiance it's way to sensitive and I've had it turn them off for reflections of road signs and even for a street light a Mile away. Even if a car is a long way off it turns off and so I went back to using the lever as I drive through alot of heavily deer populated areas so I need brutes as long as possible.

High beam assist is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Watching you from the Philippines! Your videos make me learn easier besides the user Manuals on our new subaru. Thank you! 🙏

I have a new Outback and haven't driven it at night yet - but I'm curious to see how well it works. My dad's Cadilac in the 70's, the reflectors along the highway would dim the lights. If you adjusted the sensitivity (you could on that car) it wouldn't dim the lights properly for oncoming traffic.

I drive to work in the dark and love the auto high beams.

Think this video should be revised q little. You just push the stalk 1 step forward to engage auto high beams. Fully forward just turns the high beams on.

I live in a semi rural area where there's no street lighting and I often have to use high beams when driving. I never forget to switch to low beams when facing an oncoming car. My 2017 Outback automatically switches to low beam, not only when there's an oncoming car, but also often when the lighting of houses comes into view and even when light is reflected from road signs. This is annoying and if I knew how to disable this feature I would happily disable it. Alex, maybe you know?

Same in the 2018 Crosstrek limited, except the stalk is pushed forward.

Love that Black Ops 1 intro.

I did end up buying the Meta Quest 3, the tech is insanely good. I haven't played enough Batman yet to tell you if it's good or not, but the reviews seem to be overwhelmingly high.
I wish i had more free time😢

Hi, like your channel.
I can't till from reading my manual if my 2024 Subaru Outback Touring XT...has side mirror heater. Where would it be if I have that feature. Thx brother

Its worth noting that at least in a 2025 Forester, one push forward arms it the auto bright/dim, it takes two push forward to override to High Beam on and I now am assuming it will auto dim as soon as criteria met to cause it to do so. The manual is horrible in explaining things.

In spite of high beam assist, I still get flashed by oncoming drivers because of the fog lamps. I have taken to rolling the headlight switch forward to dim BOTH high beams AND fog lamps, then roll the switch back to HBA.
At least HBA is a backup, although the foot dimmer switch was always more convenient. And, I do find that the drivers who flash their high beams at my fog lamps are usually the vehicles with incandescent headlights. Halogen drivers know where you're coming from - or what you're coming with.

What about coming up on the rear of another car? Any action?

That Feature is horrible always turning off with street lights and reflective street signs. Is there a way to disable the auto highbeams on and off without disabling the auto headlights coming on at night?

I've a 2021 Crosstrek and this feature is dookie. Very sensitive and I live in deer country so I can't have it be that sensitive. I gotta see those buggers on the road.

No hate to anyone, I've just had a long couple weeks so I'm gonna complain about a car feature on some guy's youtube short. Be well everyone and stay safe.

Once high beam assist is turned on, is there a way to turn it off? I dont need another light on the dash 😂

I own a 2018 Outback and live in a rural area. When driving at night my, high beams switch to low when the sensors pick up the red rear tail lights of another vehicle when approaching from the rear. From a MILE away! Is there any way to set the sensors to be less sensitive? It's really an aggravating situation.
