"Going Left" has been a thing since Warthunder introduced realistic airbattles battles in 2013-2014. Early Air RB maps such as Sicily, or even older maps like Landing at Hokkaido, Airfields on those maps were set up so that when a team took off "Straight Out" off their airfield and climbed to altitude, the Opposite team would most likely always been on their RIGHT. Therefore, "Going Left" especially during early prop plane maps and matches became ESSENTIAL because climbing/staying left gave climbing fighter aircraft the BEST chance of climbing above their opponent before starting an engagement.

As time went on, more and more players picked up this trend, eventually "Going Left" and staying with the team also became a safety in numbers kind of benefit where if you went RIGHT instead of LEFT with the team, you would be caught alone and jumped by the entire enemy team and would get an early return to hanger.

Warthunder Air RB players then have this ONLY GO LEFT mentality stamped into our brains muscle memories from the beginning of our Air RB career and as we continuously play and grind, by the time we get to top tier jets, we don't even think about where to fly off the airfield except to the "Left".

But thats just a theory 😅

Not sure why the going left started, but it continues because generally if you go right you get 1v5ed and ganked.

About everyone going left; Not too sure why it started, probably with the small maps way back but the reason it’s still around is because sticking by your team you will survive for a lot longer. If you go to the right you will just get hyper focused by the whole enemy team.

In rocket league there left man goes for break on kickoff too. Its just an unspoken rule where if you dont follow it, you learn pretty fast from harsh consequences 😅

Airfields tended to face left back in the day so when they started facing head on, it just kinda stuck in the minds of the older players, and the newer players caught onto that.

Multiple factors as to why everyone goes Left:
1. If you go Right currently you will get headons with the entire enemy team.
2. Due to the old maps, going left gave you more sideclimbing ability compared to going right which in old maps was the direction of the enemy airbase.
3. Jousting Mentality, assuming most if not all players are right handed (mouse) its the natural proclivity to lead with the less dominant side (ie left ) You see this a lot in games of chicken where both sides have a nuetral understanding to veer right if they chicken out. Or in jousting where both sides set up as to have their shield closer to the divider.
4. Dexterity of Keyboard fingers, your pointer finger (your most used finger) is usually on D and E which will usually involve you going left at the start to maximize the amount of time you may go right later in the match.
5. Gun placement (modern vehicles) on most modern jets like the F-16 the gun is usually on the left making it naturally easier to fire on targets on the left whilst not risking running into them as much.

But in the end the main reason everyone goes left is simply due to spawn placement and maximizing the distance between eachother, most people don't want to be killed early into the match so maximizing the distance you are from enemy spawns gives you more time to fly (Most AFK players are usually flying on their left). As a test, after takeoff, fly perpendicular right as fast and as low as you can and once your team is a good ways past the secondary airfield, slowly start turning back in. Most players will be looking right to spot enemy players by the time you barrel in from their left. ( I used this a lot on A-10's when I used the Mig 21R-13).

I started playing sim battles recently and I’m hooked.
I was just tired of the fur ball of aircraft and missiles in RB and wanted actual dogfights. I think the f15 will be amazing in sim.

In real life: 104:0 kill ratio, F-15 is undefeated for a reason.

I also have been racking my brain about all the players going left, i think its to do with the spawns. However if most of a team is together on the left they fly swat whoever goes right then win 😂

Yes “Left climbing” is very frustrating for some of us. How ever my theory is that it is a well established technique used by a squadron of fighters to better set up for engagement while also keeping numbers. From my research 7/10 fighters who venture head on or towards the right end up focused down by the enemy team. Major skill is required. 16:22
