Bionicle is basically the lord of the rings + marvel celestials but everyone is a cyborg and the “super hero” cyborgs have super powers and can also control the elements.

Basically Bio-organic robots on a tropical island. The 6 heroes (Toa) protect villagers (Matoran) from wild animals controlled by evil. The Toa collect masks giving them powers to combat this evil.

Huge Bionicle nerd here! Going through 10+ years of story told over a bunch of different media might be difficult. The first thing I would say is: go check "Nick on Planet Ripple" video called "Lego Rewind: Bionicle".
His video will introduce you to the franchise as a whole: Lore, real-life cultural impact, events, etc.
After that, if you want to delve deeper, a website called Biomedia Project has catalogued almost all of Bionicle's story including games and comics that are accessible for you to read for free. I highly recommend starting with the Mata-Nui Online Game; a free point and click adventure game available on Biomedia Project that sets most of the world building of the 2001 story.

After that, if you want to know everything, you can also find DuckBrick's Bionicle Retrospective series on YouTube. This (near 10 hours long) series goes over the whole story (expanded universe and all) in chronological order.

I was 10 years old when Bionicle came out. To me, it was one of the coolest things that Lego ever made.
The movies barely scratch the surface of the franchise.

Be forewarned though, there are two storylines in Bionicle now.
There's the G1 storyline from 2001-2010, and the short lived G2 storyline from 2015-2016.

I would suggest going to The Biomedia Project website. They have literally EVERYTHING there. Start with The Mata Nui Online Game. It runs on flash but it should be playable on their site. If you like point and click adventure games it's the perfect introduction!

First real and the most important, original lego series that brought out that company from a financial swamp in early 2000s and rescued company from bankrupcy. Beautifull story, grat charracters, amazing idea, its just sth worth knowing. Now its dead.

In the time before time, the Great Spirit descended from the heavens, carrying we, the ones called the Matoran, to this island paradise. We were separate and without purpose, so the Great Spirit blessed us with the three virtues: unity, duty, and destiny. But our happiness was not to last. Mata Nui's brother, Makuta, was jealous of these honors and betrayed him. Makuta cast a spell over Mata Nui, who fell into a deep slumber. Makuta's power dominated the land, as fields withered away, sunlight grew cold, and ancient values were forgotten.

Go to the biomedia project. They got all the books, comics, adds, flash games, movies and etc on that site. They’ve got everything that isn’t outright lost on there.

I think they have it sorted by the years they came out so you can go through the story as it came out.

12 year old Bonk nerd here, working on a video essay for it. you should use Bio sector 01 for searching stuff, probably should watch the movies, three of which are on youtube, and the fourth you would have to rent, you would also use Bio media project for any games and comics. On video essays, Nick on planet Ripple has a great one in his lego rewind series, Ill do one at some point this year, and the chapter books would be good to read, though I don't know if they're anywhere online. probably ordering them on ebay or something like that would be where you'd find 'em. Hope this helps.

All I know is that it was associated with LEGO. XD I was getting through high-school/college by the time it was coming out so had other things to focus on. I'm interested to see what you find out though! Well played.
