My wife found this glazed door on the side of the road. Replacing a circa 1962 door, jamb and all, and installing this recycled door from scratch.

the best part of this video was showing the mistake, I will always remember that and not make the same mistake

I think this was one of the best jobs I have seen. Thank you for putting this up. I only need a chisel now to get this done.

First time I think I have ever seen a video posted like this, they say you learn from your mistakes but in this case I have learned from yours. I have made some whoppers myself not judging, just wanted to say thanks.

Great comprehensive video! I like that you included your mistakes. Unless you find someone that does only doors, and only one type, there are always “adjustments.” We accommodate the job, not vice versa. I have a much better idea of what I might encounter doing my door. Thanks!

thank you, this is the video i needed. I would recommend using a mallet instead of a hammer.

One thing this video is missing is how Dave created the rabbits at the end of the tops of the sides. Search 'How to replace a door jamb' in his videos to see how this is done. Thanks Dave!

Hey thanks for the vid and your time im sure recording editing and moving the camera angle made the job allot longer lol but greatly appreciated. Also random thing was real realaxing calmed my nerves and got to learn few things.

The only thing I'd (try to) do differently (because I'm not the best at and too impatient for) is to use a router/trim router and jig on the casing to receive the hinges rather than chisel them out . A little bit fiddly to make sure they line up perfectly with the door hinge side . But I'd rather mess around with that than do all that chiseling . Plus you've got a perfectly flat place to set the hinges in . I'm not suggesting my way us better ! Just me . Thanks for this !

I always kept unpainted golf tees in my bag for abandoned screw holes.

You need 3.5" screws in the deadbolt plate that'll go through the door frame and into the 2x4 studs in the rough opening. That'll GREATLY reduce the risk of someone kicking your door open. Do the same thing with screws in your door hinges also.

I've got to get one of those palm drivers ! Have you ever used those bits that have a spring-loaded sleeve that perfectly centers the holes to attach the hinges ? Inexpensive, accurate and a big timesaver . But unless one works alone 100% of the time, they tend to walk away on job sites ! M

Hey Dave, I got a kit from a big box store, but the top of my side jams are not daddo'd to fit the top. Am I guessing that I can just cut it flat to accommodate this? Thanks!

AvE absolutely crucified that Ridgid palm impact driver over the ergonomics. Other than the torque limitations it seems like it’s working pretty well for you 👍

I'm first....woohoo

Really enjoy your videos, just a normal down to earth bloke "doing stuff" to make his and his families life better.

I am a keen diy'er who learned some stuff from my dad and since gone on to make stuff up and learn along the way. It is encouraging for me to see that a lot of the ways you do things is how I do it. Thanks for the upload

If you arent gonna remove the door to paint it then at least take the extra 5 mins to tape off the hinges strike plates and latches. Nothing cheapens the look of doors and cabinets more than having all the hardware caked with layers of paint. I know that probably wasnt you but that was the first thing i saw and its what i am in the process of replacing in my house.

You could have used a set of chop sticks and wood glue to fill those drill holes.

I would love to see some explanation rather than watching every screw being removed. Like why did you remove the weather stripping? Why is one end of the frame kit angled? This is the only youtube video Ive found that shows this kit being assembled.

I cut out the hinge areas before putting up the jamb… otherwise nice work. Thanks for the info.

Excellent video, but what did you use for the rabbet cuts where the head jamb joins the top of the side jambs? Thanks
