This is a why I try to avoid ExPats here in Thailand, and why we have such a poor reputation,,,
Sadly it seems that Thailand draws the worst of the worst,
Thankfully as I meet more and more subscribers, my opinion is starting to change for the better.

I want to meet you, Doc. I love this video above all others. You are the type of person I would meet over seas. Your type is hard to find, our type is hard to find.
I travel for the love of travel. I travel with a set of morals. I am not perfect but I am no asshole either to anyone unless they try to scam me.
I won't let myself be a target of that. I try not to, at least.

New subscriber here. I've lived in Hawaii and I love the Asian culture and Buddhist Religion (respect for every living organism). From watching several blogs, the thing that impresses me the most about Thailand, the fact that so many expats feel free enough in Thailand to complain so much. In China expats don't complain for fear of going missing. Cheers to freedoms in Thailand 🥂

An observation I have made is that the expats I have met outside of tourist areas, have both assimilated more and are the type of people who are willing to move to real Thailand in order to make their wives happy as they love to live with their families. I lived in a small village in a rarely visited province and most of the expats there were very nice people. I believe what you are saying but, why do you stay in a tourist area? Living with Thai people is wonderful.

I tried living in another country as an expat and found almost all the expats worked at jobs taking money from other expats because the locals wouldn't deal with them. So they did mostly "immigration/visa consulting" and real estate to foreigners. And others just came right out and asked for money. I had one guy ask for $3500 US because he had a debt back home! Like every foreigner is so wealthy, they can just give away that kind of money. In that country, that amount would have paid for one year rent in my 3 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment! NEVER give them a penny. I would give some money but mostly food to the poor, most of whom were refugees. Does Thailand have a lot of refugees and people begging?

I am the kind of guy that keeps his sex life to himself. Most "normal" guys keep that to themselves. Don't really understand people who move from another and complain about the country they moved to. If you don't like it, move back. It is not your country. I actually like to explore and try new cultures and things. Hope to visit Thailand someday, if it is for me may spend some extend time there. Your videos are extremely informative.

Great video. I have a feeling I'll have few friends and that is just fine with me. Not sure how all this will work out but next year at this time in 2024, I hope to be there. Cheers!

This is why I'm very happy living in a village with mostly Thai friends, it's stressful here going to the coast with my wife for holidays, I feel like I'm constantly apologising about foreigners, I've had many ask if my wife is a bar girl in front of her and you're right, you're more likely to get scammed by other expats here than the locals, if you give advice to anyone, don't buy anything through another foreigner here, don't even rent a property, they'll charge you double or more but there's still alot of good ones I know in the country, I don't see any of them much because I live so far from everyone and am happy that way

In Australia there are some places/ bars I won’t go to because i know it’s full of people who are not particularly nice people. I assume every country has the same types of locations.
The trick is working out which places you are suitable for you.

I also find best friendships I have made, started with having drinks after an activity like, golf, sailing, scuba diving etc. Not by a random encounter at a bar, especially in a Red light district

In 25 years going to Thailand, I’ve had many of the same interactions you’ve described. Unfortunately. Stay safe, stay sane.

I live here also Mark, you can meet nice expats through Thai friends and places like fitness centers and gyms.

Is there any prosecution for a guy physically harming a girl to the extent she has to be hospitalized? In the US its assault even when the girl is a working girl

As a long-term traveler I have experienced some of the same things with westerners in Thailand, Malaisia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines, I always keep the following quote in mind as I move through the world:

"May you think before you speak, will you give before you seek, the tides of wisdom will cool the burning sands, but only for those who have a plan"

Thank you, Dr. Mark, valuable info. Problem is: how to meet non-expats there? An Irish guy on YT says he feels "invisible" and lonely in Thailand because he's a Farang. Having said this, I'd like to meet you in Phuket next January, talk about life over some beers...

Sir, I really like the way you sigh, which explicitly shows that you genuinly disgusted what you are talking about. I do respect your honesty and learned what's going on there. Thank you.

i know this guy from my hometown in Canada who just Sold everything a few months ago and went over to Thailand. I can guarantee you he will be the nightmare expat as he is all for himself and super intimidating and very manipulative. A real piece of work, beware

I always though i was anti social but i may now need to reconsider.
BTW i used to work with a guy in the UK who was married to a girl from the Philippines, every day he would complain about immigrants or refugees...i had to tell the guy to take a look at himself, we didn't speak to much after that.
Also, have i heard correctly that a new Thai 45 day visa starts this month?
keep em coming Doc 👍
