Before more comments about MCC Battle Box (what is considered to be what Wool Wars copied) come out, I used to test for the MCC event and also played Battle Box on MCCi, the target audience for both games are different & they are distinctively different. Neither Noxcrew nor Hypixel invented a point capturing game concept and Battle Box had no impact on why Wool Wars failed (this video's topic)

Although the wool wars tourney was cancelled, and then redone, it was by far one of the most fun tournaments I've ever played. I experienced almost no cheaters, and noticed the game is a lot more fun when it's played competitively, because a lot of strategy goes into it. Thats probably why ranked wool wars is more popular than the actual game

imo theres no way they could make placeable blocks in woolwars and the fact that you can't place blocks is what makes it fun for a lot of people. a big portion of the competitive players came from stratus and mineplex and i doubt theyd play if it was another generic block spamming mode

i think the main reasons woolwars is dead is lack of updates + such a sweaty community. as rays said in his comment its really hard to get into woolwars with so many good players. ive seen plenty of players considered really good at the game in their own gamemodes try scrimming woolwars mains (especially leading up to the tournament) and were getting completely walked

i think the main thing is just that being a 4v4 gamemode woolwars is naturally very very competitive and has a very very competitive comm and the average woolwars main is a lot better than the average bedwars player

i think wool wars died for 2 main reasons:

bedwars and duels have always been more prolific and popular gamemodes, and people simply didn’t want to switch to a game thats so different.

similarly, the meta in wool wars is archer kit, which ends up in a lot of bowspamming and unless people are willing to adapt to dodging and bowing themselves, it’s very annoying for new players to deal with it. as someone with 200+ stars in wool wars, there have been so many times that i see random people play and then instantly complain after one round about how they’re being bowspammed.

hypixel has never made a good update for the mode, they constantly worsened it OR neglected it over and over. I feel i had more enjoyment with buggy prototype woolwars than released wool wars. it had a whole different vibe, and its truly a shame how it played out. I was on the leaderboards for months when it finally released and the only reason i quit was its dead player-count-and the neglect literally made me believe it was about to be deleted entirely, and I wasn’t alone on thinking so. Crazy how neglected a genuine good mode was. At the end of the day, I’m glad I wasted time on the mode as the people I met within the community were very nice, but god - hypixel let everyone down

Man I used to love this game. I grinded it hard in summer 2022 and was #11 on kills lb at one point. I remember when we got the first update to the game a week after release and my optimistic ass thought we would get weekly updates. That was not the case...

The Minecraft Championships MADE the original game (Battle Box) and it is FAR better and overall well made, I recommend trying it out on MCCi really cool and fun :D
