I love how in a podcast interview the author of the book described the author character as a teenager gushing over the rise and fall of the Roman Empire.

I saw a theory on reddit that the Author is in fact some type of descendant of the Qu, it's highly likely the Galactic Alliance decided to give their old archenemy a taste of their own medicine by devolving them, and the Author is just one Qu Subtype that managed to re-evolve

The original image of this alien is possibly the most confusing. I thought his nose was in the centre of his face not the eyes, and the eyes were under these wrinkles to the side of his head somewhat close to the ears.
