Art created by artificial Intelligence

DALL-E is one of several artificial intelligence software programs that can turn anything you type, no matter how absurd, into art, in any style you like, drawing from hundreds of millions of images in its database. And with this technological advance come some serious downsides. Correspondent David Pogue looks at how AI is changing the game in graphics, interior design, architecture, fashion and moviemaking, while causing artists to worry about protecting their creative livelihood.

Agree with the artist their works should not be used in the algorithm since it may factor into the new works of art generated. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Andy Warhol Foundation v. Goldsmith case now in front of the Supreme Court -- that could set precedence for how art is used and whether or not the original artist is compensated, copyrighted, and in this case, used for generating new art. Same goes for the new Copy AI programs, albeit much more difficult (imo) to track how the copy is generated from others' work.

None of this is ART. This is a bad pastiche program.

AI art rips off "assets" from artists (big and small) without their consent or knowledge. Extremely harmful for artists, theres a lot of resources online to see why that is exactly.

All problems mentioned will be solved in five years. As an artist, don't see it as a tool for the competition, but as another tool I can use. There will always be competition, volatility.

The use of an artist's data without their permission could potentially be considered theft from artificial intelligence, depending on the circumstances. Generally speaking, copyright laws protect an artist's work, including data, from being used without permission. Additionally, using an artist's data without permission could also be considered a breach of privacy, depending on the nature of the data being used and how it was collected. As such, it is important to always obtain permission from an artist before using their data in any way.

It’s already being used in music and listeners have no idea.

They should hire traditional graphic artist and photographers or pay them a premium commission work to make the AI even better. Anytime their work is reused they get payment for it.

This modern-day artwork definetly has a unique style, but still captures clever beauty and admiration, for how it’s all put together, to make it really stand out, like other past artwork, we’ve seen for years.

I tried to get AI to make "YouTuber CGP Grey watching snow in the style of Renoir" it failed miserably. It was a nice picture...but nothing like CGP Grey. It did better with "Freddy Mercury Marlboro Man"

3:30 - if I go online, look up an artist's work, study it and draw in it's style - am I stealing? If Dall-e was using pieces of existing works - then, yes, it's actively using someone else's work. But learning from an artist has NEVER been considered stealing.

They have no idea what harm they're doing to the artistic community. If you can "create" art with a push of a button, without putting the time and effort into it, then it's not art. I'm sorry, but this is a HARD PASS.

5:30 exactly!! It's not the tool's responsibility to limit creative expression and social media gatekeeps any "harmful content". Stable Diffusion is vastly superior to DALL-E 2 or Midjourney. DALL-E in particular tries so hard to be woke-friendly that they remove huge quantities of images because they depict reality and not their fantasy. Let artists make what they want and let society and platforms decide what's allowed.

... the never- ending watering down of what's considered to be "art". For myself, I might be inclined to allow some of these AI programs to use my works gratis, but I would at least like to be asked first. It's just common courtesy.

This is artificially produced "art" that only steals other true artistic works of human inspiration and cobbles together something that looks like real artwork. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, it's here.
