Royal Yacht Britannia - Queen Elizabeth II’s Floating Palace

When Queen Elizabeth II and her family went on vacation, they didn’t fly coach or take a carnival cruise. They traveled in style aboard Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia. The Queen designed the ship herself the year of her coronation. This was her favorite place to be, where she could truly unwind. I recently had the opportunity to tour this historic yacht in Edinburgh, Scotland. And to talk with the Yotties who served the Queen while she traveled the world. Let’s explore this floating time capsule, learn how it functioned, find out where the royals visited, what they ate, how they slept and relaxed. I’ll dish on the four honeymoons which took place on board, and we’ll be treated to an intimate glimpse of the British royal family at their most relaxed, while on vacation!

So glad that the Britannia was turned into a museum. It's very important to preserve history.

Lindsay takes a break for nothing!! Even on Christmas Eve you’re still uploading and giving me the most awesome gift ever more videos!!! You’re getting better and better all the time and it’s fun to see a little more of your personality come out the more videos you do. Thanks for all the great entertainment in 2024 and I look forward to all the amazing content to come in 2025❤️💚

Learning about the honeymoon curse of HMY Britannia is the highlight of my week. It’s so funny to think the ship cursed all of those marriages. I have to agree that spending your honeymoon on a ship with lots of young men in the best physical shape of their lives isn’t a great idea 😂

Amazes me that this "YACHT" was larger than some of the turn of the century (1900) Ocean Liners that would carry thousands of people per crossing to travel to America.

“A connecting door in case they were feeling romantic on their travels” those beds don’t look big enough to do anything romantic in 😂😂

2:40 John Brown & Co also built many famous ships including the Royal Navy Battlecruisers; HMS Hood (infamously sunk by the German battleship Bismarck during WW2) & RMS Repulse (sunk by Japanese bombers along with HMS Prince of Wales only 3 days after Pearl Harbor), and the Cunard Liners; RMS Lusitania (infamously torpedoed a German U-Boat in 1915), RMS Aquitania (nicknamed "Ship Beautiful" and served in both World Wars), RMS Queen Mary (Cunard's "Superliner" that was almost never built & is now a floating hotel in Long Beach), RMS Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mary's running mate that caught on fire in Hong Kong Harbour in 1972) & Queen Elizabeth 2 (named after the Queen herself, served for 39 years between 1969 and 2008 (beating out Aquitania by 3 years) & is now a floating hotel in Dubai)

"Pretend they were invisible." My immediate thought was Princess Margaret.

Amazing video. We don't get a lot of behind the scenes look at Brittania very often. I'm also very proud to be living in a neighbourhood with the same name, Brittania, here in Mississauga, Canada.

Elizabeth would visit Toronto, Ontario in her yacht to visit her cousin Grand Duchess Olga who lived in the greater Toronto area for a long time. Oddly, Olga’s branch of the family was never used as a source of DNA to test against the remains in Russia to verify if they were indeed the Russian royals. Olga was the sister of the tsar.

Sweet fact, The Late King Constantine of Greece 🇬🇷 in a documentary I watched had a framed watercolor that King ( then The Prince of Wales) Charles did while on his and Dianas honeymoon while they were sailing around the Greek Isles. The watercolor was very good to be honest. 😊 🎨🖌🖼
Britannia had been decommissioned in 1997, and premenntioned edict from the Queen of having no honeymoons on the ship The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were married in 1999, so they couldn't have had their honeymoon aboard anyway.
