A great sparring session between a taekwondoka and a Muay Thai practitioner. This is from what's becoming my favorite Muay Thai gym in China called Superman Muay Thai. The TKD practitioner has some great kicks to his arsenal, but he also makes beginner mistakes in his kickboxing. The Muay thai practitioner looks very conditioned, but he also isn't going to the body enough. But he'll learn. Let's watch and see the gap between TKD and Muay Thai. Leave your comments and let us know what lessons you learned!

For those of you who do want to access Douyin, feel free to look the channel up: 胡一刀 is the channel. I suspect he's a student at the Muay Thai gym because he's always posting content from the gym. I'll one day find out more.

A lot of TKD guys have a lot of potential because kicking is the hardest aspect of striking arts but Taekwondo on its own doesn’t have enough defense and hands. Taekwondo is a great entry level martial art to build a striking arsenal upon as long as you are willing to learn and adapt

Caught up with a high school friend after college and said how I'd trained some mma, mostly Muay Thai in college and he was a youth black belt TKD so we ended up sparring. Hobby Muay Thai and a little reach had me edge out in the spars and he ended up training MMA, BJJ, and Muay Thai after that. He got his blue belt in BJJ and won a few amateur bouts before an eye injury changed his hobby list. Great friend to this day.

I really don’t think that kid has only been fighting 6 months. He moves so fluidly and never forgets to protect his head. Not only that but he’s level changing and stepping in to stuff the guys kicks.

Interestingly many TKD guys stopped kicking against Muay Thai fighters after a few minutes when they realized that the TKD kicks are ineffective against the opponent

In all fairness, the TKD guy has got heart. But he trained 3 years of TKD to fight in a non-TKD match, it's a recipe for a one-sided event.

Coming from experience as an old-school TKD BB, you REALLY need to learn boxing to survive any of these matches.

If Tae Kwon Do do more sparring against boxers, kickboxers, Muay Thai and not only against other Tae Kwon Do and classic karate artists they will have more experience against other martial artists. But this TKD guy is doing actually pretty good thought, but this Muay Thai kid definitely has experience, especially he listened to his coach.

Muay Thai kid has a good coach and he listened to the coach.

I love your videos where you show fights between boxing against taekwondo or modern martial arts against traditional martial arts like taekwondo. How open my mind is after seeing your videos featuring some great fights between modern martial arts vs traditional martial arts. Like taekwondo kung fu or other traditional martial arts, the moves are beautiful but not effective enough for street fighting or real world fighting. I really appreciate the videos you upload on your YouTube channel👍👍👍

I was a tae kwon do practitioner before but I stopped practicing it when I realized my coach gave me a false confidence that I would do well in self defense situation. I had a street fight when I was in high school I was able to beat my opponent maybe because of his lack of discipline but when he suddenly pulled out a butterfly knife I froze in fear and I don't know what to do. Maybe I would have been stabbed on that fight if a security guard did not show and stopped everything. When I got older in my 20's when I remembered it I cringe because I was stupid in my younger years I should have thought of evading the fight instead.

Those headhunting kicks from TKD were burning too much fuel. Not saying they don't work, but if its wearing you down, then maybe doing more "K" than "T". Maybe save them for later when the opponent is used to the low kicks and is anticipating the same?

TKD guy did pretty much everything available to him but sadly they don't teach head movement in TKD. His aggression was great, he's fast and athletic, and he was pretty smart with his use of kicks. He didn't go for the usual fancy spinning stuff like a lot of TKD guys do. I feel a philly shell technique would have helped him here. Bill Superfoot Wallace is a great example of this. Anyone hoping to win with kicks should research him.

The TKD rules really affect their ability to fight in non-TKD matches. No punches to the face, so they're not used to having their guard up when punches are thrown. No low kicks (they don't know how to check a kick), No pushing or throwing. They can't clinch so they're not used to tying someone up and slowing their opponent down. No knees or elbows which benefit Muay Thai. Also kicks are worth more in TKD scoring so TKD fighters are conditioned to throw less punches.
I do find it odd that they don't protect their heads more since there are more kicks to the head.

Great exchange experience for muay thai and tkd. Respect.

The Problem with TKD is they need to work on better punching and head movement.

muay thai is the most superior for conditioning, striking and kicking. Needs more head movement, but this guy was impressive with the sinking below TKD guard and framing with an elbow. Superior agressive 2nd round

The TKD guy should use more side kicks or go for a spinning back kick, that kick is extremely good for defending and is the most powerful. And he definetly should go for much more kicks to the body
