Theres like 3 stretches for cr7 that i think, 1st stretch from 2004-08 i think he had great yeas for portugal, starting with a euros run to the final, you can see when he was in the team with rui costa, saviola, pauletta carvalho figo manesh etc he was not making too many mistakes, his skills aided his hold up play and his talent shined though sometimes he over dribbled it was apart of his expression. This part consisted of him making team of the tournament in euro 2004 at 19, final and semi final of 2 major tournaments and THAT match vs england showing loads of potential.

His second stretch i thought was his worst from around 09-2013 around there where even though he does great things, i think the fact he has to be carry portugal really got to him for a long, he would attempt the audacious way too many times instead of doing the simple pass or making the run or just dropping deep to pick up or to make a thru pass, but he was still the one making the assist scoring the goals was impactful. This stretch consist of semi final run in 2012, qualifying portugal for the WC in 2010 despite the squad dropping in quality, hattrick vs sweden to qualify portugal to WC from play offs in 2013 and THAT match where he scored THAT disallowed goal, so he did a lot here inspite it being his worst period, i think this is particlarly because he was at his physical peak.

3rd period for portugal from about 2014-2021 the longest and best period i believe. He was now a G/A guy who was aware of his limitations and was more focused on how he can still impact the game more than being the center piece of all the media attraction, this is due to ofcourse him getting an injury that ensures his physical decline, meaning his mental attributes had to come to the fray more than before when his physical attributes were so great he never had to think too much, lending more though to the game gives you more options and outcomes and i also think he mastered the simple game here instead of trying the extravagant and spectacular all the time. His skill also helped him bring others into the game as well, this stretch includes a silver and golden boot in 2 major tournaments, 2 tournament wins for portugal a Euros and nations league, hattrick vs spain 2018, most goals and assist for portugal most goals in euros history most goals in knockouts for portugal in euros most assist for portugal, he was very effective in the right way, he also scored some of his best goals in this period, that goal from dam near the half way line vs denmark in WC qualifiers, the header vs wales, the back heel goal vs hungary, the freekick vs spain, plus underrated assist to nani vs hungary and wales as well, on top of that he was so inspirational for portugal vs france also.

All in all i think all 3 period were legendary, but the middle part had 2 transitional period for ronaldo and portugal thus had the most mixed bags of godlike quality football but also attrocious displays while Cr7 was finding his way, if ronaldo had the same maturity he had in his later career football wise, and hadthe physical peak he did in the late 2000s and early-mid 2010s i think he would have achieved atleast a silver medal in the world cup, because honestly the reason why portugal had to put up with a lot of the baggage that came with ronaldo was because at his best he was clearly a world beater like just watch the match vs netherlands in 2012, match vs spain after they won world cup in 2010, match vs germany in 08 in quarter finals of euros, the wc qualifires game vs sweden in 2013 etc, you can see it clear aint no way any other player in that portugal that can scratch what Cr7 was able to accomplish on his worst day especially in his prime, so i understand, but i think the player between 2014-21 though declined physically, grew as a footballer mentally, versatile in all areas of the pitch, and portugal did get their reward being european champions does not matter how they won it, Cristiano Ronaldo is Portuguese football not imitation.
