As an old man, I started using the old 1/2 hp plug in drills that took three to five seconds to stop turning once you took your finger off the trigger. They would spin you around like a top if you were not careful! Thank you for showing the clutch feature on the newer drills, hopefully watchers will remember to use this feature to save their wrist.

The clutch isnt a hidden safety feature.

I always like to set the clutch too low at first when I don’t know where it needs to be set at and gradually work my way up.

Did not know about the anti-kickback feature in drills. Back when I was a teen and out of school for the summer, I worked as an electricians helper. One day I was up on a ladder drilling a hole with a large 1/2" drill when it snagged a knot in the wood, and the handle caught me under my chin, lifting me off the ladder which I kicked over and pinning my head against the joist. It didn't hurt me, but it sure surprised the crap out of me, and I learned a valuable lesson that day.

This is more for protecting the material than protecting your wrist.

I use it to prevent over torquing a fastener.

I have to say, so many times when I am drilling material I actually use two hands. Usually one on the trigger area and the other, most of the time, on the battery area to help support the drill drill straight holes. So with two hands you rarely have a serious lock up and twist action. But it can happen all the same... Thumbs Up!

why is the title "Every Drill Has THIS SECRET Safety Feature Built In" when in the first couple of minutes you show that this is not true

No secrets were harmed in the production of this video.

Always start at a lower torque number and work your way up until you are getting the drill bit to bite adequately...then go maybe one number higher...you can always add more gronk if it starts to not drill enough...

Silly. This is neither hidden nor special. Any clutch is an anti kickback device. The reason they exist is to absorb shock and prevent damage to a drive train.

This safety feature is the reason why I've purchased the gen 4 Milwaukee drill. Great video.

Been working in construction for about 13-14 years, yes, clutch is probably the most underused feature of all. I can use my Makita drill driver almost the same way as an impact driver when undoing screws without stripping out the heads and I use the clutch mechanism for everything, but I honestly struggle to recall seeing anyone else using the clutch for anything other than setting screws/bolts to the required torque and even that only in modern super precise electronic versions.

Im 65 and have a collection of tools i started buying in my late teens. One of my favorite drill motors is a old Craftsman. Big aluminum body D handle with a side handle, 7/8 hp and no clutch. When drilling a hole into metal, you start to sweat knowing what can potentially happen. You will not stop it if it hangs up. I have put bruises on my thighs from the side handle. When it bites and you get your hands off it takes anywhere from 2-3 full rotations before the drill motor stops spinning around.
She is a beast and i have a love/hate relationship with her.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you shouldn't just use an adapter to use regular drill bits in an impact driver. The bits you use with an impact driver need to be impact rated. Dangerous advice to give, IMO.

I have been in the construction industry for over 50 years. The safety element did not exist when I began. Now a days I hold the battery end of the drill motor as the second handle. That works just fine 99% of the time.

Informative video. Would be nice if you mentioned the brand and model numbers of the ones that did have the “kickback sensor”, though. I had to do a screen capture band zoom in 😁

The future you're talking about when they handle moves it shuts the drill off that's pretty cool that's the first time I ever saw that I thought you were actually talking about the one that makes a ratchet noise the one you're talking about the first time around now that's pretty cool with the handle when it moves and shut the door off that's pretty cool❤❤❤❤

My first experience with a drill was using a 1/2" DeWalt impact wrench - just like the one shown here - plus a full-length auger/bore. Not just the auger bit, but the whole length of a few feet was threaded. I was expecting the kickback, put the handle on, but it still caught me unawares a few times and I got some nice bruises that day. I also should've put some water on the surface I was drilling...

I didn't see where he explained what the safety feature was or how to engage it...

And specifically said, it was not the clutch, and the clutch only helps it???
