I just did this mod with alkaline batteries and it runs like a champ now!
I took an ATM receipt 🧾 and trimmed it down to test the printer and it works fine!

Would it be possible to just install lithium cells that would last forever in that thing?

the batteries were fully charged before dispatch and the charger is 9v center negative, the printer not only prints the calculations but can also print a monthly calendar (handy to stick on the fridge to know when bin days are).

Great job, try setting your soldering iron to 550° F, your tips will last longer and you would not overheat components so quickly, plus, it's all you need to use for most things

The original batteries in this device are NiCD; replacing them with these NiMH batteries is not recommended, at least not if you intend to keep using the original internal charging circuit.

What about dismantling some older stuff and creating a new 3d printed case and making a 2017 modified version. (game gear?) *wink* The batteries that mine ate were mental. My favourite games were Taz and Psychic World from 1988.
