People held protests in numerous cities around the world on Monday in recognition of "May Day", also known as International Workers' Day, with many calling for wage increases and better working conditions.

In Istanbul, Turkey, riot police detained dozens of protesters trying to reach the city's Taksim Square. The governor had allowed May Day celebrations to take place in another district, but deemed gatherings in all other locations unauthorized.

Demonstrations over pension reform also grew violent on Monday in Nantes and Paris, France as cars and bicycles were torched in the former city, while water cannons were fired on protesters in the nation's capital.

Things were more peaceful however in the Philippines and South Korea, as demonstrators marched through the streets in Manila and occupied a boulevard in Seoul.

We in the UK get: Lambeth Palace spokesman has said the homage is "very much an invitation rather than an expectation or request”, "I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God." This will be followed by a fanfare, and Mr Welby will then say: "God Save The King", with all asked to respond: "God Save King Charles. Long Live King Charles. May The King live forever. The UK should be protesting en masse about the fact our country is going to hell on a hand cart, not faffing about with this nonsense. Whether Charles is king or not, it will not make a jot of difference to the out of control cost of living crisis or the alarming number of freedoms we are having removed and the gross mismanagement of our country.

Unskilled labor is always going to be low wage because it requires no skill. The higher the required skill the higher the wage. You wouldn't expect a mason or carpenter to get the same wage as a packer or picker.
