"Misty" is a well known jazz standard that was originally composed as an instrumental piece in 1954 by Erroll Garner. Lyrics were written later by Johnny Burke, and the song was covered by many artists, including Johnny Mathis, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Frank Sinatra. Apparently, it was also featured prominently in the 2012 film, Silver Linings Playbook.

My dad would play this every single time he touches the piano. I never knew what the song was until now. Beautiful! Brings back memories.

Every time I hear that tune it takes me back to a bar in Subic Bay, Philippines. It is 1960. I am 18, a new Navy Hospital Corpsman, and drinking San Miguel beer in the Club Oro. Dancing to "Misty" sung by Johnny Mathis, with "Toni" a beautiful young Filipina girl about 22. Had a terrible crush on her. Ah youth!

My piano teacher passed away 8 years ago. She’d always teach me classics like this. Miss you so much Maxine Bagan 😢. You were such a beautiful person

Beautiful execution and interpretation that in one passage (min.2:05), in particular, brings to mind the Arabesque n.1 by Claude Debussy. Excellent.

I love this variation of Misty in its purest form. This one has more of a nice and soothing classical feel to it while still keeping its charm as a jazz standard. Its a nice break from all the dissonance in other jazz interpretations of this beautiful piece.

erroll garner would be proud. he didn’t know how to read music but you can’t get this kind of expression out of an instrument just by reading sheet music, it has to come from your heart

I LOVE your interpretation of this song. Too many jazz players play it too quickly IMO and the melody gets buried underneath dozens of notes. This one though is just perfect as it retains the same tone.

I love it that YouTube brings this video around every few months to grace my ears again, with this lovely rendition of Misty. I just freeze actions and melt down, and intently listen to each key-stroke. LOVIN'IT

Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree;
And I feel like I'm clingin' to a cloud,
I can' t understand
I get misty, just holding your hand.
Walk my way,
And a thousand violins begin to play,
Or it might be the sound of your hello,
That music I hear,
I get misty, whenever you're near.
Can't you see that you're leading me on?
And it's just what I want you to do,
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you.
On my own,
When I wander through this wonderland alone,
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove
I'm too misty, and too much in love.
I'M JUST too misty,
And too much

His dynamics are so amazing. I'm breathing, exhaling the notes as he plays.

You just played this song the way I have always wanted to. I've studied piano for years. I've had students... dozens of them. I even cut a recording.

But I cannot do what you just did. Thank you. I'll be listening to it forever
