I think what Julien is articulating in her eloquent, mature way is a lesson in resiliency. I completely relate to her quote near the end when she says (paraphrasing), "Why do we keep going and subjecting ourselves to more inevitable pain." I often think the same thing on a daily basis. Yet when you overcome a trial, you become more resilient and you develop a deeper sense of gratitude for what you still have. Her expression, her art speaks to this. That's why we bother, because beauty, in all its forms and disguises, can pull us through.
