Microsoft Flight Simulator: Game of the Year Edition Sim Update 7 is arriving on November 18th with DirectX 12 support. The free update will include five new aircraft, eight new airports, and new discovery flights and tutorials. The big addition will be DirectX 12 Ray Tracing support for PC players.

Asobo, the developers of Microsoft Flight Simulator, already shipped an update earlier this year that included huge PC performance improvements. This new DirectX 12 update should improve things even further for certain PCs, as DirectX 12 includes better CPU utilization.

The move to DirectX 12 will also open the door to ray tracing in Microsoft Flight Simulator in the future. Effects should include better water, improved shadows, and the usual reflections we expect to see in ray-traced games. Asobo is also introducing an updated weather system and a dev mode replay system in this upcoming update.

Looks like frametime is a lot more stable in dx11 for this game.

Stay with Dx11 for now... dx12 in this game is not worth it yet.

Made my frame rate go from butter to molasses. Every thing reset itself too....All the sliders in assist were defaulted to easy, pilot assist were all on
Nice F-18 though.

How come I don't have a direct X option in my "options" menu ? It doesn't even exist.

DX12 frame-times fluctuating more compared to more stable DX11.

Just wondering though if the ‘Direct Storage’ feature within DX12 is working with MSFS yet, now that MSFS 2020 has DX12? That is, if MSFS has been patched to take advantage of it. Many of us are just eager to get those initial game boot load times down (for those with NVMe M.2 SSD’s).

On mine it went from 50-60 to 20-30 with dx12 so i leave it on dx11. Playing on 5600x, rtx3070, 32ram 3200hz 1440p on max settings. Test on the new F-18 weekend chalanged

Direct x 12 seems to be overall smoother and just looks more realistic overall with reflections but does seem to have the fps surge occasionally but direct x 12 is better I won't go back.
