India's Congress suffers devastating defeat

The Indian National Congress party has suffered its worst national election defeat in its history.

After nearly 10 years in government, the party and its United Progressive Alliance allies are leaving office.

The Congress party may still play a role as part of India's political opposition, but its massive election loss has raised serious questions about its future.

Congress was promising more welfare but with the large government deficit, it was almost impossible to deliver. BJP had a more pro business policy in order to create jobs and grow the economy. That itself will uplift people. Indians, especially the young voters wanted more jobs and had ambitions. They did not want welfare.
