The youngest and oldest characters hand in hand taking a leap into the future together...my heart.

I only just noticed, but as she walks out the door, Erin puts on her denim jean jacket. In the beginning of the first episode, Erin's mother forbade her from wearing it to school and Erin protested that she was an adult and ought to be able to express herself however she wanted. In this final episode, she is legally an adult and expresses her opinion in the referendum.

“And if our dreams get broken along the way, we have to make new ones from the pieces.”

That one hit me like a brick wall.

When the crowd roars after he says "Yes - 71.12%" I well up and get goosebumps every single time.

The Liam Neeson cameo taught me more about this even than any history class ever did.

I had tears in my eyes during this finale - 'Yes 71.12% the people of Northern Ireland have spoken' The Cranberries music was so appropriate.

@1:23 realize that is Erin's individuality jacket her Ma wouldn't let her wear in the first episode.

This scene made me so emotional! To think all the people in Derry, and across the north. Their history, their individual battles and their stories and experiences throughout the troubles.

Derry girls did an amazing job of making a comedy during those times, focussing on the innocence of the girls and what their future might hold. To view it now and see the voting and characters is so interesting, because so many made the decision for a better brighter future.

The last clip of Granda Joe and the youngest daughter is so poignant and powerful. Joe’s generation would have experienced a range of struggles and discrimination in his time, as well as being badly affected by the violence but he and the majority put it behind them for the good of the next generation. ❤

I'm not Irish and know next to nothing about the Troubles except that they happened... and I sobbed through this whole episode...

There are very, very few perfect endings to a television series.

This is an piece of solid-gold magic

I learned about The Troubles because of this show. I never knew there was a significant conflict in Northern Ireland. I did a deep dive into research after finishing the series. And before anyone comes for me, I’m not American; I come from a small country, and we were never taught about the histories of most countries.

I remember my family and I going to vote! I didn’t appreciate it’s significance at the time. But now I do.
