Easy Way To Install Humbucker Cover – How To Put Covers On Guitar Pickups

Fast and easy way to install pickup covers on humbuckers without soldering iron, which can be easy to remove. And as an example I will use my Gibson SG Special.
I start with removing strings and a pickguard.
Keep in mind, that neck humbucker and bridge humbucker have different sizes. So covers have to be also different.
To secure them tight I use silicone for bathrooms. This will be enough to hold covers, but also you will always be able to take them off easily.
Make rock - not war!

Part of the reason you use solder is to create a common ground it's not just to hold it in place otherwise glue would just be used from the beginning.

I didn’t even know that was a cover you could put on or take off, I thought it was it’s whole other thing

Great vid. I liked the idea of using silicone for bathrooms.👍

It would be awesome if he was faking the accent.

Thank you for this video, I did this once. However, now I would like to do it again potentially with my Gibson Les Paul Classic.

This is asking for unwanted noise and microphonics. The cover won’t be grounded and there’s nothing to limit the space between the humbucker and the cover itself.

Yeah, you should definitely solder it to the baseplate since it’s metal so that will be 100% connected to ground.

Ya see I really want to do this but I’m too scared to be taking my guitar apart 😂 I don’t trust myself enough haha

Great video - I love the fact that I got the same Gibson SG model and I’m planning to put covers on it but I was not sure if it would look good and now I know it sure does ! 👌😅

LOL. Last week I rotated a pickup in my guitar 180 degrees. Because it has a locking tremolo bridge, all I had to do was pop the tremolo springs out, and remove the bridge, with all strings attached. Did the pickup rearrangement and poped the bridge back, replacing the trem springs. The guitar came up almost exactly in tune; just a minor fine tuner tweak was needed on two strings.

thank you! Have you experienced any type of change on how it sounds??

You can also solder a wire to connect humbucker and the cover electrically to avoid microphone effect. no need to solder the whole thing like some guys do

my guitar store was telling me if i wanted to do this i had to get them wax dipped or something and the price that that would cost to get thaat done at a luthier would be not even worth it and it would make more sense and cheaper to buy a set of covered jbs and if i just put them on as is they would sound really bad and muffled or just not as bright sounding.. whats your take?

Terima kasih ilmunya pak.
Saya akan mencoba memasang tutup pelindung pickup humbucker coil.

they dont need to be grounded as the pickups arr grounded in the electronics anyways. You could solder if you wanted to but all they are are covers. The silicone is fine.

You’re holding it upside down in the thumb pic. The adjustable strews are supposed to line up with the holes in the cover.
