Salt becomes less effective at melting ice as it gets colder and it’s recommended to stop using salt when temperatures are under 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Why? Salt lowers the freezing point of water, however, when the temperature drops too low, salt will stop melting the ice and will become ineffective.
