Highlights from a TRAVEL FAMILY exploring the world | The Newbys best bits of 2021

Welcome to the Newbys 2021 wrap up of what has been an extraordinary year.

2021 got off to a flying start with the arrival of our little boy Crusoe in February, a full van build followed shortly after and then a trip to the NC500 and Scotland. Next we went to Portugal for a short "holiday" where we bought some land, (we will tell you all about that today). On our return to the UK, we took a sunny trip to Wales in the now completed van. After that we stole a chicken, drove across a continent to find a £22 flight to the Middle East, there we explored one of the wonders of the world, Petra, completely alone with not a tourist in sight. Phew! After all of that we decided it was time to head to Africa where we are currently on an overland tour through several of Africas southern countries, it's all very exciting.

We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. We release new videos every Sunday sharing our story, and we’d love for you to be a part of it with us. To many favourite memories to remember …soooo many…when the boys were having some daddy and son time in back of van and Caruso vomited…it brought back memories of my son at around the same age now 52 did the same in his fathers face and it was a lot more than Caruso did…the hitch hiker (chicken) of course all the spectacular scenery. You meeting the man who painted the photos that were on the houses in that beautiful little village Yes he was older but still looked like his photo/painting done all those years ago. I bet it meant as much to him to be able to show you as it was for you to meet him.
When I watch you film clips I can almost the taste the fruits/foods chorizo and smell so many smells from heat nappies bakeries etc etc all ads to the experience Thank you for sharing which gives me so much pleasure Ingrid

Hi guys. It was a fast-paced and inspiring video. I hope people don’t stay home to rot, but boldly start realizing their dreams. Start though by making bread and coffee and going to eat them on the rock of your home village. That's when the adventure begins. The team has had great progress in building new life over the years.
The car became absolutely brilliant and cozy. Likewise, that Portugal project is really neat. I can imagine how much enthusiasm is enough. I myself get power from active brave people.
I am also going according to plan. In the long run, you just have to develop that dream of your own every day. I am completely moving into a motorhome to live in. I hope during 2022. Keep the momentum on.

Hi again. Still catching up on your travels. I especially loved the “ chicken story”. When I was young we had chickens at home and would take them on holiday to my grandparents farm in wales for the summer holidays. We always stopped halfway and found the chickens had laid eggs 😀

Crusoe is very different from Sawyer. My guess is Crusoe is more like John’s family and Sawyer is more like Tara’s. Both are beautiful children.
I am so glad you are renovating the buildings rather than tearing them down and happy you are living in them and rejuvenating that gorgeous property.
