Your rendition of this is excellent, a send-shivers-down-your-spine performance. However, even though I like your singing and playing, I don't like this version of the song. The original was written by Leonard Cohen with specific lyrics and is widely appreciated for the majestic song that it is. This rewrite of the song lyrics to suit a specific religious doctrine is not only disrespectful to the original, it is an insult to the creativity of the writer. If Christians want a Christian song, fine - write a new song, Christian artists are writing new Christian songs all the time. Rewriting existing songs is unneccesary. What is next - rewrite Sounds Of Silence with Christian lyrics? How about we rewrite Silent Night with Muslim lyrics? Why not change the lyrics of the entire Beatles catalogue to glorify the Rainbow Serpent or the Flying Spaghetti Monster or some other deity from whatever religion. To change the subject of the lyrics of any song for religious or political or whatever reasons is a slap in the face to the original composer. I don't think you would like it if you wrote a deep heartfelt song about whatever subject and someone else changed the lyrics so that it meant something entirely different. It saddens me to write this because I otherwise love your music and am in awe of your incredible talent.
