Lahaina Town Art - Memories of FRONT Street

Front Street in Lahaina had dozens of Art Galleries before the fire. I used to spend a lot of time walking through town and checking out all the art. Of course I never really intended to buy anything... until now.

Wow, what a great find!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful picture of Lahaina. I was with my husband in May 2023 we went to Kimo’s and Fleetwoods two different nights!! Such a beautiful place with wonderful people. I was so sad when I heard the town is all gone. Mahalo for taking the time to do your drone flights and show the progress of what is going on!! Hoping to go back to Maui next year with my husband for our anniversary!!

Art is emotional. As an artist when someone asks me what art to buy I usually say the piece that speaks to you. One that you’ll always love to look at and has meaning to you. You choose well! This piece will mean that much more to you since it’s a memory of something you loved. Great choice!

That is the view, that is the spot that had my heart, Jesse. I lived in East Maui for decades, but decided I wanted to spread my picnic blanket there and read a book and watch the boats in my senior years, from that spot. There were other draws for the West side, of course, but that spot was in my top five reasons. I did make that move, closing on my place four days before the fire, in a safe spot, but this picture hits hard.

Now you can look at the old Lahaina every day, Jesse! I wouldn't be surprised if you started collecting paintings of Lahaina and eventually have a whole wall full. It has a soothing effect! Great choice! :-)

Beautiful. My friend and I were there 5 days before the fire, and my friend took a photo of that same place stating "I don't know why I'm taking all of these pictures. How many pictures can I have of Lahaina?" Her father has since painted the scene for her, and it is a treasured keepsake.

We were in Lahaina on Friday August 5?, 2023. We ate at Kimos, shopped at many stores. Went to the art place with the Dr. Seuss stuff, and the other art place with art by Anthony Hopkins, Anthony Quinn. I can't remember if we went to the vintage poster store. Flew home Saturday. Woke up Monday, went for a walk. Looked at CNN on my cell phone and practically had a heart attack seeing that Lahaina burned down hours before. Absolute shock! Banyan tree massive fire damage. Horrendous! Please start rebuilding Lahaina now. Trees need to be planted. Catastrophe.

Oh my Lord thank you for sharing. I have such lovely and great memories. The restaurant in the far left used to display car license plates from all 50 States that related to Maui.

My husband is an artist, he does oil paintings. He had about a dozen paintings in Maui Hands on Front Street at the time of the fire. Fortunately, Maui Hands had great insurance, so financially it wasn’t a loss for us, but he had some beautiful pieces in that location that are gone forever. One in particular was one of my favorites, a huge painting of a waterfall. If anyone is looking to buy oil paintings, visit any of the other Maui Hands locations in Wailea, Paia, and Makawao. Ask about Steve Rinaldi’s paintings. He will be artist in residence in Makawao every Tuesday in November, 12-2

Molly and I have a copy of George Allan’s painting of the Pioneer Inn above our desk that reminds us of what all have lost.

In 2019 there was an art dealer on Front Street that sold metal photographs of Hawaii scenes. At the time he had a wonder group of scenes from Hawaii Volcanos National Park (along with numerous other fantastic metal prints from Maui). I don't recall the name of the shop because, like you, I often visit galleries only to view the art.
