Thanks for the review. I'm a big Ben Wheatley fan, so I was always going to see this one, but it's nice to get confirmation that it's a good 'un.

I’m a bit late to your video, though I saw the actual movie close to the time you released it. I watched it again, about 2-3 months ago, so it’s a bit fresher in my mind, though I do plan on watching it again before Halloween. I am probably one of not many who will say this- I really enjoyed this movie- but I didn’t like A Field In England. It seemed that all I heard for a good long time was how amazing it was, and how deep, and what it was saying, and how it’s the new blah for our blah. I thought it was not very interesting and a bit pointless. But then I realized- it wasn’t the movie that I didn’t like, but the comments that people would leave about it. I read through every single comment on a video clip from it, and it was nothing but an echo chamber, as if they praised it hard enough Ben Wheatley himself would rise from the pumpkin patch and give them all a pie he baked in a witch’s skull. It was all so… pretentious. I hate using that term, because I know what it’s like to think something is genius, and no matter how hard you try to convey it to someone, they just don’t see it. But these comments- well, they were a bit much. Anyway- judging by how much I enjoyed this movie of his, I am going to rewatch A Field In England, and now that some time has passed since I read those reviews, I think I can see it through different eyes. I love horror movies, and just good movies in general, but folk horror has long been my favorite sub genre. I once again live in the town I grew up in, and it’s a farm town in New England with tons of woods that I’ve always loved exploring. That type of rural, agrarian, close to the earth kind of environment is ripe for the imagination, and had (still has) a great influence on my likes and dislikes. I’ve had my share of eerie occurrences in the woods here, and seen things I can’t explain. I lived for several years in Providence and loved exploring Lovecraft’s city, and had unexplainable experiences there as well- I guess nothing quite equals the general creepiness of old New England, and save for the five years I lived in L.A., I have lived here in one state or another for 47 years. I really don’t think I’d be comfortable anywhere else. Sorry for the long comment- I have a real problem being succinct. Thanks for sharing your review, and I hope that I didn’t offend anyone with my opinions. Have a great week!
