Nehru enjoyed 17 years of total authority because u had all the rightful leaders from removed out of the way. The most prominent example is Netaji Subhash Chandra bose. He was d real leader of this country not Nehru. And u said nehru never succumbed to dictatorship. That was the biggest joke of the century. The man who imposed a dynastic rule on us, against whose authority nobody spoke up. What more example can u get of a dictator? What kind of a democracy did nehru blv in when he himself was not democratically elected as congress president. He became a selectd prime minister not an elected one. The last elected congress president was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose of the congress party. After that nobody was elected fairly.

Nehru's legacy is far greater than his mistakes or failures. BJP & RSS are always cynically critical of Nehru. Except Late Shri Atal Bajpai, who acknowledged Nehru's achievements in his speech in Loksabha when he was a PM.

Shashi tharoor is partially correct but main credit goes to Indian Hindu majority population who despite being religious are not indoctrinated like Islamic population .Along with this Hindus including their social reformers accepted liberal Western education while Islam forcefully rejected that.This tolerance led to a democratic nation and Nehru's credit remains in using that opportunity.

In Asia, mostly non Muslim majority countries are successful democracies {Japan, South Korea}.I would prefer communist China and even dictator ruled north Korea over any Muslim majority nation as minorities know very well about their limited rights and options in Islamic majority country.

No doubt he did very good things for india but simultaneously he sheltered Dalai lama thus creating an enemy no one that is China and while forces were gaining ground in kashmir he went to uno for cease fire thus keeping the kashmir problem alive till date, above all congress govt's never claimed that pok is our part of kashmir instead always defended the our part of kashmir.Refuges from pok never given indian citizenship instead it was otherwise in case of other communities, a lot to say but these are some.
