Windows 10 Hero Desktop Image - Behind the Scenes

Blasting lasers, pumping smoke machines, colored filters and falling crystal dust. Not all desktop images are created equal. Take a look behind the scenes at the making of the iconic Windows 10 image in Microsoft collaboration with world renowned, San Francisco-based design director Bradley G. Munkowitz aka GMUNK.

Y'all are missing the point. The windows wallpaper was made using a pane of glass. Therefore, it was made using windows.

First I find the Windows XP default wallpaper is in fact a real photograph of a real hill and then I see this. I am actually awed.

It'd be great if Microsoft actually implemented the animated designs into Windows, as it just seems like a waste of your effort creating all these images.

This is crazy awesome!! The fact that they went to all that trouble and Microsoft just gave us 1 static wallpaper on windows is criminal. We could have had beautiful animated wallpapers and screensavers this whole time.

I think the fact that Microsoft spent so much time and hard work on this background means that they actually were trying to make it good. It really sucks that the latest version (or at least the one I'm using, which is Windows 10 Pro x64 build 1909; I recently upgraded because I kinda corrupted Windows 7 and I would have to upgrade soon anyway due to end of support) just has a plain background.


It's so light too. It doesn't help that my parent's don't let me turn on dark mode for apps.
