I once found a half crown in between some cobbles in my local town centre, way back in 1964, I was on my way to school at the time, But for the rest of that day, I thought I was rich. I have always liked the half crown, ever since .Thanks for the excellent information on our pre decimal coinage,

At current silver price 4× 50% silver half crowns are worth £15.84 so £8 was a great deal
Great video as always half crowns are one of my favourite denominations

Many here say they loved the half crown. It was my favourite coin when I was a lad in the 1960’s. It was the highest value coin in common use (Crowns weren’t an everyday coin). On my birthdays, my aunts and uncles gave me cash and I’d usually end up with at least 4 half crowns. Fish ‘n’ chips was only 1/3 (1 shilling & threepence) and my favourite comics were 3 (threepence) at that time, so I felt rich. One day in 1965 my mum let me look through her purse and I found an almost uncirculated 1945 half crown and she gave me it. 60 years on I still enjoy looking at it. One of the most satisfying coins of all time.

Didn’t all the pre decimal coins have much better designs and so much more character. Lovely video yet again 👍👍👍

7:42 His initials were taken off the coin in 1949 because although the design is mostly the same, removing IND:IMP required the the text to be adjusted. As such, it wasn't (strictly speaking) Kruger Gray's design anymore.

Thanks for the great video. My first set of pre-decimal coins is the the Half-Crown, from 1947 to 1967, and I have almost completed my sixpences from 1920.

I have found just three UK half crowns while metal detecting here in Ireland - one silver 1901 QV and two copper-nickle coins - both QE2 1956's... which so happens to be my good lady's vinatge so she annexed the both of them!😁😁

Fabulous video Paul, great information 😁👌. Half Crowns are my favourite pre decimal. I loved the 1817 and 1909 at the beginning of the video .

Thanks Paul for another of your excellent pre decimal coinage videos. This time the beautiful Half Crowns, especially the earlier Edward VII & George V designs which are my favorite designs. These coins put the modern day decimal types to shame.
