The second day of the 2024 Post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Discussions held at the Hilton Hotel in Pasay City on 24 July 2024 brought together government officials and policymakers for an in-depth dialogue of strategies to enhance education and workers' welfare development.
A key highlight of the discussion centered on the implementation of an expanded career progression system for public school teachers, aiming to provide clearer pathways for professional advancement and enhance the overall quality of education.
Significant attention was also given to recent adjustments in the minimum wage for entry-level positions across various sectors and regions, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In a positive development, the employment rate has risen to 95.9% while underemployment has decreased to 11.7%, reflecting a healthier job market. The discussions also touched on plans to support workers from Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
Additionally, there was a focus on the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and plans to provide them with better support and opportunities upon their return.
Lastly, the incorporation of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) into the senior high school curriculum was highlighted as a step in equipping the youth with practical skills and improving their employability.
