My wife is much more of a serious Springsteen fan than I’ve been; that is until Western Stars. I only recently discovered this gem, but have found myself replaying it ’cover to cover’ regularly now. It’s as if Bruce spent some time traveling parts of my past and rummaging through my soul to create a mirror for me, cracks and all. This isn’t an album that could be sung or covered by anyone half his age. It’s the reflection of someone who’s recognizing he’s got fewer days in front of him and his ‘seasoned’ voice gives his incredibly descriptive lyrics more weight and depth as he looks through the rear view mirror of a life. The orchestra is lush and acts as an extra character in his storytelling. “Sundown” and “There Goes My Miracle” are revelations, and Moonlight Motel’s “Pool full of empty, eight feet deep. Dandelions growing through the cracks in the concrete” could easily be a painting. As someone working his way through his ‘last act’, I can at least be truly thankful to have lived a life listening to all types of amazing music – and this collection of musical poetry and the accompanying video is something I’ll always treasure, as this ‘rolling stone keeps rolling on’. Thanks, Bruce.

I remember going to see Bruce at Wembley Stadium years ago, and standing up for the 4 hours of the gig. I couldn't walk afterwards. Still at the top of his game. This is outstanding.
